Jack in the Box® Restaurants to Introduce New Light-dining Menu Options and Launch "Smart Choice" Logo in the New Year

December 27, 2007 // Franchising.com // SAN DIEGO – Sure the holiday season is all about spending quality time with family and friends, but it's also about pure, unbridled gluttony. Mmm ... bring on the egg nog and sugar cookies! But when reality strikes on January 1 (elastic waistband, anyone?), Jack in the Box® restaurants will be there to help you get back into your "skinny" jeans with two menu options that debut on January 3 – Grilled Chicken Strips with teriyaki dipping sauce and a Chicken Fajita Pita sandwich featuring a pita made with whole grain.

In addition to the new menu items, Jack in the Box is also introducing its new "Smart Choice" logo, which was created to help direct guests to its lighter menu options.

Jack's new Grilled Chicken Strips features a serving of four, white-meat chicken strips served with teriyaki dipping sauce on the side. The Chicken Strips, which are served with a knife and fork, have 190 calories without the sauce and 260 calories with one serving of sauce.

The Chicken Fajita Pita, which has been a staple on Jack's menu for 20 years, gets a nutritional boost with the addition of a pita made with whole grain. The pita sandwich, which has 300 calories, contains 16 grams of whole grain per serving.

"Consumers are more knowledgeable about nutrition these days and many are looking for lighter menu items," said Tammy Bailey, division vice president of menu marketing and promotions at Jack in the Box Inc. "The revamped Chicken Fajita Pita and Grilled Chicken Strips are great menu choices we think our guests will appreciate and enjoy."

Jack's new Grilled Chicken Strips with teriyaki dipping sauce and Chicken Fajita Pita featuring a pita made with whole grain are available a la carte for the suggested prices, excluding tax, of $3.99 and $3.60, respectively, at all participating Jack in the Box restaurants.
