Hilton Garden Inn(R) Offers Guests Late Check-out to Celebrate Daylight Saving

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Just in time for daylight saving – when clocks will be set one hour ahead on Sunday, March 9, 2008 – Hilton Garden Inn® announced today its annual "Give Back the Hour" promotion which gives guests an extra two hours for check-out.1 In observance of this big day, guests staying at participating Hilton Garden Inn locations will be treated to an extended check-out time of 2 p.m. (instead of the standard noon check-out) this Sunday, at no additional cost.

The annual promotion is available for one day only and guests will be notified of the extended late check-out upon arriving at the hotel. Guests won't have to look further than their hotel or guestroom for ideas on how to spend those two additional hours that may include:

About Daylight Saving Time

Daylight saving time was instituted in the U.S. during World War I in order to save energy for war production by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight between April and October. During World War II, the federal government again required the states to observe the time change. In 1966, Congress passed the Uniform Time Act, which standardized the length of daylight saving time.

Today, energy savings continues to be the driving force behind the time change. Daylight saving time works by "making" the sun "set" one hour later, thus reducing the period between sunset and sun down by one hour. As such, from mid-March through October, less electricity is used for lighting. (Source: About.com)
