Lenny's Brings "More Food, More Taste, More Personality" to Denver

Mile High Sammies, LLC Buys 40 Restaurants in the Metro Area; Franchise Sale is One of the Largest to Date in the Western United States

May 06, 2008 // Franchising.com // Memphis, TN – While recession fears continue to hamper productivity and growth projections for many quick service restaurants, Lenny's Sub Shop is bucking the trend, having more than tripled its national presence since 2004 and now expanding its friendly brand personality throughout Denver.

Mile High Sammies, LLC has purchased the exclusive rights to develop the Lenny's brand in and around Denver. Partners Joe Gilmore, Jerry Bell, Dodd Williams, Dr. Kerry Cleveland and Nathan Turner will open 40 restaurants in the Colorado counties of Adams (6), Arapahoe (9), Denver (10), Douglas (3), Eagle (1), Jefferson (10) and Summitt (1). Mile High Sammies, LLC plans to open its first location this year.

"The sub sandwich sector is not only one of the fastest growing segments in the restaurant industry, but also a healthier alternative to burgers and fried chicken," said Nathan Turner, who put together the group of Memphis-based investors. "We're proud to be part of the growing Denver community and look forward to feeding the local appetite with our sliced to order subs and grilled to order Philly Cheesesteaks."

The Denver expansion announcement is part of an aggressive national growth strategy to accelerate the company's franchising program. Having more than tripled its national presence since 2004, Lenny's has numerous new restaurants set to open this year and hundreds more in development.

"The West is a hot region for Lenny's right now, with several restaurants having recently opened in Nevada, New Mexico and California," said George Alvord, CEO of Lenny's Sub Shop. "The Denver group has the experience and the restaurant knowledge to be a five-star operation in a market that can appreciate a quality sub sandwich."

"More Food, More Taste, More Personality!"
Founded in 1998, Lenny's has stayed true to the original values that make it a first-class concept.

The emphasis on "More Food, More Taste, More Personality!" traces back to founder Len Moore, who opened the original Lenny's Sub Shop in a suburb of Memphis 10 years ago with one ambition – to create an authentic Philadelphia-style sub shop reminiscent of his early East Coast days. From the beginning, Len focused on building a better sandwich experience by providing special touches that give the QSR a full-service feel. Attentive employees greet guests at the door, provide refills and bus their tables.

At Lenny's, guests won't see a garbage can anywhere in the dining area (there's no need since staff takes care of discarding plates and trash for diners), and the booths, unlike those found at typical sub shop outlets, are oversized and cushioned for added comfort. Meanwhile, the deli cases display the finest quality meat and cheeses and guests enjoy regular sandwiches containing about half a pound of meat and cheese, while the aroma of Philly Cheesesteaks fills the air as they are visibly grilled in a windowed kitchen area.
