Pizza Fusion Ends Year with 16 Restaurants in Eight States; 700 Percent Growth

Organic, eco-friendly restaurant chain sees substantial growth despite economic landscape

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., – Pizza Fusion, pioneer of the environmental and organic restaurant movements, is concluding 2008 with 16 restaurants open in eight states across the map, from California and Washington to New Jersey and Florida. The chain, which started 2008 with only two restaurants, ended the year with 700 percent growth and more restaurants in development for 2009.

"We're very grateful for Pizza Fusion's continued success. It's extremely humbling to witness the company take flight during a time when so many businesses are struggling to keep their footing," Vaughan Lazar, president and co-founder of Pizza Fusion, explains. "We're entering new markets and consumers seem to be very receptive to our organic menu and socially conscious practices."

Since Pizza Fusion launched in 2006, the company has been carving out a niche in the restaurant sector for delicious, healthy, organic food, including pizza, sandwiches, salads, beer and wine, made with the highest quality ingredients. Pizza Fusion's industry-leading approach to socially conscious service and operations is setting the standard for restaurants to follow as the industry slowly transitions to a higher quality existence. Additionally, the chain's commitment to the environment and healthy, delicious eating has attracted an eclectic group of consumers that are making Pizza Fusion a highly sought after national brand.

Beyond an extensive organic food selection, Pizza Fusion also offers a number of menu items for selective eaters, such as vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, and casein-free options. This year, the company was recognized by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as one of the country's top 10 vegan-friendly pizzerias and by Co-op America, where Pizza Fusion was nominated for the second time as a Top 10 Green Business of the Year. As the industry's leading environmentally sound restaurant chain, Pizza Fusion practices a number of 'green' initiatives, including delivering their food in hybrid vehicles, building all their restaurants to LEED certification standards, offsetting 100% of their power consumption at all their restaurants with the purchase of renewable wind energy certificates, recycling at all their restaurants, and much, much more.

"There's a growing population of health and environmentally conscious people out there who are tired of being ignored by businesses; particularly restaurants," Mike Gordon, COO and co-founder of Pizza Fusion, states. "There's nothing people are more critical of than what they put into their bodies… its nutritional value, the quality of its production, and, of course, the way it tastes. As we continue to expand nationally, Pizza Fusion is connecting with these audiences; finding loyal customers demanding these values from restaurants."

Pizza Fusion currently has over 75 restaurants in development in 15 states around the country. The company is considering area developers and individual owner operators to open 500 locations in all 50 states over the next five years.
