Christian-Based Commercial Cleaning Franchise Shines in Bleak Economy

Office Pride Experiences Best Two Quarters in Company's 17-Year History

April 08, 2009 // Franchising.com // Franklin, IN - Office Pride, Inc., the nation's most admired commercial cleaning franchise, founded by popular author and entrepreneur Todd Hopkins, is wiping through the recession with record revenues. During the past two quarters, the 105-unit franchise system surpassed its previous top sales marks and is carrying significant momentum into the second quarter of 2009.

"While other companies have tempered their sales efforts in response to the economy, we've been proactively engaging our customers in discussions about how we can support them through budget challenges," said Hopkins, founder and CEO of Office Pride, and author of three Christian-based business books, The Carrot Chaser, The Janitor and Five Wisdoms for Entrepreneur Survival. "We're maintaining our client rosters, and growing them with new business that appreciates our willingness to creatively help them get the most service for the price they can pay."

As Office Pride pushes its operations to new levels, the company has set an aggressive franchise growth plan into motion. The expansion calls for recruitment of like-minded Area Developers to open 500 new Office Pride locations throughout the next 10 years in key markets such as Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, Memphis, Dallas and Houston.

"We're meeting the growing demand for affordable, high quality commercial cleaning services, putting us in a great position to grow in many markets," Hopkins said. "Our Area Developers, individual franchise owners and employees operate in a culture based on biblical principles, including honesty, integrity and hard work. These values set us apart and are paramount to our success," said Hopkins, pointing out that the "Pride" in Office Pride stands for "Personal Responsibility In Daily Efforts."

Hopkins, a natural-born entrepreneur who first started selling bubble gum for profits in the second grade, chose commercial cleaning as his industry of choice while working towards his MBA at Butler University. When a fellow student was looking to sell her small janitorial business, Hopkins jumped on the opportunity, purchasing her equipment and supplies for a mere $800. As part of his MBA research on franchising janitorial services, he interviewed successful commercial cleaning service professionals in the industry, eventually incorporating their best practices into his Office Pride business plan.

After more than a decade in business, Hopkins continued to embrace the advice of others. Despite the Area Developer model being almost unheard of in janitorial franchising, Hopkins decided to adopt the growth approach following conversations with franchise industry icon Fred DeLuca, founder of Subway.

"The Area Developer model offers brand protection. By empowering our Area Developers, we have a local brand advocate to help train and provide ongoing support to our end franchise owners," Hopkins said. "Since they have ownership and responsibility in their area, we can trust that the Area Developers will recruit the right kind of franchise owners."
