Upscale All-suite Brand Honors First Embassy Suites Hotel in Overland Park, Kansas with Donation of $25,000 for 25 Local Charities

May 22, 2009 // Franchising.com // Memphis, TENN, – Embassy Suites Hotels, the upscale, all-suite hotel brand, plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary at the Embassy Suites-Overland Park – the world's first Embassy Suites Hotel – by gifting $25,000 to local charities in the Overland Park / Kansas City area. On Thursday, May 21 in the hotel's Atrium, guests, team members, and representatives from the 25 charities will come together to celebrate and to receive their $1,000 checks personally from Dawn Ray, director of public relations, Embassy Suites Hotels.

The 25 charities include Kansas City Toys for Tots, Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead, Special Olympics of Kansas, Meals On Wheels-Shawnee Mission, March of Dimes, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Cancer Society, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City and many more.

During the event, guests will celebrate with a special cake and refreshments and visits from many of the children who will benefit directly from the donation, including the Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.

"We are thrilled the Embassy Suites brand was able to give back to Overland Park charities that have done so much to improve the lives of those in our community," said Paige Southard, the hotel's general manager. "At a time when many businesses and people are affected by the economy, we are excited that something positive can be done to help these not-for-profit organizations continue to thrive and do their jobs."

The Embassy Suites-Overland Park recently completed an eight-month major renovation of its 199 guest suites, lobby, Atrium, meeting space, Fitness Center and Business Center. The Embassy Suites Hotel is owned by FelCor Lodging Trust based in Irving, Texas. The hotel is managed by Hilton Hotels Corporation, based in Memphis, Tennessee.

When the hotel originally opened in 1984, it marked the debut of the two-room, all-suite hotel concept. Additionally, it became the first hotel to offer a complimentary, cooked-to-order breakfast for guests, for which the Embassy Suites brand is known.

The hotel features 1,800 square feet of meeting space including three meeting rooms, as well as a business center, a gift shop and a state of the art Fitness Center featuring Precor fitness equipment.

Spacious, two-room suites include a separate living area with a sofa bed, private bedroom and bath, Flat-screen televisions in each room and parlor, wireless high-speed Internet access, two phones with voicemail, a wet bar, refrigerator, microwave and work desk/activity table.

Consistent with all Embassy Suites Hotels, the Embassy Suites-Overland Park offers a full, complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast each morning and a two-hour nightly Manager's Reception*, popular with both business and leisure travelers.
