Jersey Mike's Subs Provides Non-profits "sub"-stantial Real Estate On Cups

July 15, 2009 // Franchising.com // Manasquan, NJ Jersey Mike's Subs, known for its commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves, is helping non-profit organizations, thirsty for visibility, by offering them free real estate on millions of its beverage cups.

Beginning in July, the first of 14 inspiring stories will start appearing in Jersey Mike's stores. The cup series highlights organizations that Jersey Mike's franchisees have worked with over the past year including national groups, such as Autism Speaks, and regional ones, such as Interfaith Neighbors, a New Jersey-based group which helps working poor families and elderly residents. All 14 designs will be circulating, most nationally, by the end of August. Each story will appear on 325,000 22-ounce cups.

"Now our customers can get a sip of inspiration as they eat their subs," said Jersey Mike's founder and CEO Peter Cancro. "These organizations do phenomenal work and this is one way for us to give them some added visibility and celebrate their missions. It's also a way to recognize our franchise owners for the valuable contributions they make every day."

Giving back to the community has always been a guiding principle at Jersey Mike's. It's a philosophy that Cancro emphasizes to each and every Jersey Mike's store owner: support the community that supports you. Last year, the franchise group raised more than $250,000 in contributions and distributed more than 75,000 free sub sandwiches to help different causes.

"Autism Speaks is proud to be featured in Jersey Mike's inspirational beverage series," said Michelle P. Preslar, Executive Director of the Greater Charlotte chapter. "This partnership helps us raise awareness and support for the autism community by putting our message in front of hundreds of thousands of people. We greatly appreciate the support of Jersey Mike's Subs."

Each cup will feature the words "Making a difference in someone's life," a sentiment that Jersey Mike's takes to heart. While the current economy has many companies cutting back on non-profit efforts, Cranco and his team are as dedicated to helping as ever. "When we give back to our local communities, everyone benefits," said Cancro.
