YAS Fitness Founder Kimberly Fowler Buys YAS Silver Lake with Big Plans for Studio and Community

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 10, 2010 -- Kimberly Fowler, former professional triathlete, cancer survivor and founder/owner of YAS Fitness Centers, acquired the franchise's YAS Silver Lake location on February 1st, determined to see the unique fitness studio meets her high standards while making it a proactive community force on par with her original YAS Venice location.

"We're bringing all kinds of improvements to the studio," Fowler says, "From adding heat in the yoga room--it hasn't been heated to now, brrrrr--as well as adding a YAS Yoga & Sportswear shop and another yoga room for private instruction. And that's just for starters."

Fowler will also be bringing her "A-Team" of managers and instructors to YAS Silver Lake, including herself: Fowler will be teaching Yoga on Tuesday and Thursday nights. A widely-respected yoga expert and longtime Nike Yoga Spokesperson, Fowler singlehandedly started the trend to bring yoga to a wider audience with her Yoga for Athletes® workout and DVD. Her no-nonsense guide to yoga, "The No OM Zone: No Chanting, No Granola, No Sanskrit," coming out in July from Rodale Books, continues that mission.

Other YAS "A-Team" instructors coming to Silver Lake include L.A.'s leading spinning instructor, Sherri Rosen, and popular YAS veterans Julie Simon and Myrna Gaardsmoe. Fresh new instructors from Venice will also be joining the roster of established instructors already lighting up the Silver Lake studio.

But Fowler insists it's more than improvements to the studio and schedule that she has in mind.

"YAS has always been about community--being a positive force in the community, creating a healthy environment that supports that community, and giving back to it," Fowler explains. "YAS philosophy is rooted in helping people achieve their personal goals. That includes providing them an exhilarating, supportive community in which to work out, as well as engaging in the community at large."

YAS Venice, the original YAS Fitness Center, was a beacon of hope on the formerly blighted Abbot Kinney Boulevard long before it became the trendy thoroughfare it is today. With her philanthropic arm, YAS Gives Back, Fowler has long contributed to local community causes and fund-raisers, as well as national and international charities.

"YAS Silver Lake will be the same active member of the East Side community as YAS Venice has been to the West Side," Fowler says. "Between the energy infusion and improvements to the studio, and our outreach to the community, we're incredibly excited about the future of YAS Silver Lake."
