Koko FitClub Franchise Expanding Into California

Company Signs Multi-Unit Agreement for San Francisco's East Bay

June 08, 2010 // Franchising.com // BOSTON, MA,: Koko FitClub, LLC, the technology company that is reinventing the fitness franchise business, today announced their latest area development agreement for the East Bay region of San Francisco, CA. The first opening in this California debut for Koko FitClub is scheduled before the end of December, 2010.

Val Rogers, co-owner of the future East Bay Koko FitClubs with husband Michael, look forward to bringing the Koko Smartraining System to these technology-savvy Bay Area communities. "People here are serious about their health and fitness and technology is huge!" Residents of this area, located just north of Silicon Valley, are completely at ease with the integration of technology into their daily lives. So, Koko's use of technology to deliver automated personal training sessions is, according to Rogers, "a perfect fit."

Rogers is a mother of two who left a career in real estate appraisal to raise her children 12 years ago, but says "In the last year I've been thinking that it's time" [to get back to work.] She has always been passionate about health and fitness, and equally passionate about helping her East Bay neighbors improve their lives. Rogers' Koko FitClubs will provide an outlet for these passions while allowing her the flexibility to continue prioritizing her children.

Rogers describes busy East Bay residents as "highly educated and aware that fitness is important," but "You can tell people are bored at the gym. They are tired of the same old things that don't work." She also sees traditional gyms as time-wasters that don't mesh well with the East Bay commuter lifestyle. "Thanks to Smartraining," she says, it's possible to "save at least an hour" of gym time every visit. She is confident that the community will embrace the effective, time-efficient Koko workout and serene club as much as she does, and expects the health of the community to benefit as a result.

Koko FitClub President and Co-Founder, Mary Obana, describes Rogers as "the perfect franchisee candidate." She continues, "At the core, Koko is looking for people who want to change lives, their communities and ultimately the fitness industry." Rogers, she says, "is a tireless worker who truly sees this opportunity for change and bringing something meaningful to her market."

Koko FitClub is for the millions of people who want all the benefits of exercise but don't have the time or energy to figure out a plan that works. The company's genesis in 2003, according to Obana, was the realization that, "Traditional gyms don't work for the vast majority of the population. They don't have time, and they don't know what to do." Seven years and $10,000,000 worth of research and development later, there is a solution. Says, Obana, "In an industry stunning in its lack of real innovation, we developed the Koko Smartraining SystemTM. It's revolutionary fitness technology that actually gets people fit. Think of it as a computerized personal trainer ready to coach you through a custom designed fitness program, all on your schedule."

The Koko Smartraining System technology precisely analyzes each Koko FitClub member's unique fitness level, then designs a customized training plan based on individual goals and ability. The Koko Smartraining System uses that information to guide users through personalized, highly-effective workouts on proprietary strength and cardio equipment, packing all the benefits of a 60-90 minute personal training session into just 30 minutes or less, and at a fraction of the cost. World-class trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Koko FitClub Chief Fitness Officer, Michael Wood, says, "Human personal trainers simply can't begin to manage all the variables or track progress with such precision as we can through Smartraining technology."

With Koko FitClub, Obana and husband/Co-Founder Mike Lannon have taken the same approach to running franchises as they have to exercise. While Koko Smartraining technology offers a consistent, high-quality member experience, it also uniquely enables a relatively low-cost, easy-to-operate business model for franchisees, allowing a Koko FitClub to be staffed by one person and to be open nearly 24 hours a day. And, Lannon points out that The Koko FitClub franchise, with the exclusive rights to the patented Koko Smartraining System, is in an enviable position. "We offer breakthrough technological innovation that tackles head-on the biggest issue in this country: an aging, overweight population."

The ideal candidates for a Koko FitClub franchise have a strong desire to help their communities and are drawn to entrepreneurialism as a way to control their personal and financial future. According to Obana, "We are looking for people who want to be at the forefront of a game-changing new concept in fitness, health and technology. This continued expansion reinforces our belief that people are craving a better way to improve their health and change their lives."
