Koko Fitclub Franchise Continues Growth In Massachusetts

Acton Location is First in MetroWest Multi-Unit Agreement

July 02, 2010 // Franchising.com // BOSTON, MA - Koko FitClub, LLC, the technology company reinventing the fitness franchise business, continues to add locations in its home state of Massachusetts, today announcing their latest in the MetroWest town of Acton. Scheduled to open in August at 342 Great Road in the Acton Woods Plaza, this is the first Koko FitClub for owners Jeff & Lori Granville who intend to open multiple clubs in the MetroWest region.

The Granville's were searching for both a business opportunity and a lifestyle change when they came across Koko FitClub. With backgrounds in the computer and software industry, both Lori and Jeff immediately understood the power of bringing technology to fitness. Says Lori, a Marketing VP for a large software company, "The concept was so compelling to me, I knew immediately that we had stumbled upon an idea that was almost too good to have not already been done. It's not like me to grab the phone and engage right away, but I did. We didn't hesitate in signing on and are now ready to open our first club just six months after our first meeting with Koko FitClub."

The Granvilles are a busy family with three active, athletic sons and close ties to their community. They looked seriously at other businesses, but ultimately picked Koko because it is a business the whole family can be excited about. Explains Jeff, a former technology sales executive, "Koko has an element of social responsibility important to us and our kids." Maintaining a healthy family/work balance and contributing to their community is of primary importance for the Granvilles. So, the more they learned about Koko, the better it looked. They will soon be addressing a need in their community that Lori, as a busy professional, first recognized- a place for people like herself to get fit. "My life can be hectic, and for someone like me who doesn't particularly enjoy working out, if it's not really convenient, I just won't do it and I don't think that I'm alone in that kind of thinking." Jeff agrees, "Koko is a whole new way to exercise and not only do I believe that this will change how people look and feel, it will change how people feel about exercise. They will realize that it doesn't have to be an agonizing or time consuming process. It can be fast, efficient and even a little bit fun."

Koko FitClub President and Co-Founder Mary Obana believes that Koko FitClub Acton will be hugely successful because, "The Granvilles are hugely successful at everything they do!" She describes Jeff Granville as "an all-star relationship builder. He's a natural at connecting with the people around him." And Lori has applied her abundant energy and passion to making a difference in her community since moving to the area. According to Mary, when taking something on Lori asks herself, "Am I helping anybody with this?" Mary concludes, "Both Jeff and Lori are absolutely bullish on the Koko FitClub concept, and believe without question that people in their community will be better for it."

Koko FitClub is for the millions of people who want all the benefits of exercise but don't have the time or energy to figure out a plan that works. The company's genesis in 2003, according to President and Co-Founder Mary Obana, was the realization that, "Traditional gyms don't work for the vast majority of the population. They don't have the time, and they don't know what to do." Seven years and $10,000,000 worth of research and development later, there is a solution. The Koko Smartraining SystemTM. Says, Obana, "It's revolutionary fitness technology that actually gets people fit. Think of it as a computerized personal trainer ready to coach you through a custom designed fitness program, geared to your needs, all on your schedule."

The Koko Smartraining System technology precisely analyzes each Koko FitClub member's unique fitness level, then designs a customized training plan based on individual goals and ability. The Koko Smartraining System uses that information to guide users through personalized, highly-effective workouts on proprietary strength and cardio equipment, packing all the benefits of a 60-90 minute personal training session into just 30 minutes or less, and at a fraction of the cost. World-class trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Koko FitClub Chief Fitness Officer, Michael Wood, says, "Human personal trainers simply can't begin to manage all the variables or track progress with such precision as we can through Smartraining technology."

With Koko FitClub, Obana and husband/Co-Founder Mike Lannon have taken the same approach to running franchises as they have to exercise. While Koko Smartraining technology offers a consistent, high-quality member experience, it also uniquely enables a relatively low-cost, easy-to-operate business model for franchisees, allowing a Koko FitClub to be staffed by one person and to be open nearly 24 hours a day. And, Lannon points out that The Koko FitClub franchise, with the exclusive rights to the patented Koko Smartraining System, is in an enviable position. "We offer breakthrough technological innovation that tackles head-on the biggest issue in this country: an aging, overweight population."

The ideal candidates for a Koko FitClub franchise have a strong desire to help their communities and are drawn to entrepreneurialism as a way to control their personal and financial future. According to Obana, "We are looking for people who want to be at the forefront of a game-changing new concept in fitness, health and technology. And every franchisee that opens the doors to a Koko FitClub in their hometown reinforces our belief that people are craving a better way to improve their health and change their lives."
