Jersey Mike's Subs Franchise Raises Funds For Charleston Volunteer Rescue Squad

July 22, 2010 // Franchising.com // Jersey Mike's Subs Charleston County restaurants joined forces to raise funds for the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad. Jersey Mike's contributed $1 for every #13 sub sold from April 1 to April 30 at all eight stores.

"Our Charleston County team is excited to get together to hold this fundraiser for such an important organization," said Jay Yates, Jersey Mike's franchisee and area director. "These amazing men and women volunteer their time, continue their training and even put their lives at risk to help this community when and where we need it. At Jersey Mike's we believe in that kind of commitment to community and we are thrilled to be able to help."

Participating stores, all of which have recently been remodeled, are located in Charleston, North Charleston, Mt. Pleasant (3 stores), James Island, Goose Greek and Summerville. During the fundraiser, they will sell as many of Jersey Mike's most popular sub as they can. The #13 is the Original Italian with an assortment of Italian meats and cheeses, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, done Mike's Way with red wine vinegar, olive oil and spices.

"We're honored that our local Jersey Mike's restaurants are supporting us in this way and we'll use the much-appreciated donations for the on-going process of upgrading our equipment," said Peter Rogers, Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad public information officer. "It's great because the community can help out the Rescue Squad and at the same time have a great sub. We like to say 'feed yourself and support the squad'."

The Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad provides support for auto and heavy extrications, missing or injured boaters, land search and rescue, high angle rescue, diving, drowning (recovery and transport), swift water rescue, and first responder medical for EMS. Its 56 qualified volunteers, including almost equal numbers of professionals and regular citizens, also offer support to local Fire and Police agencies when needed with resources and/or manpower. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week all year long. In 2009 alone, the Volunteer Rescue Squad answered more than 1,000 calls. It most recently purchased a new boat with GPS and Sonar capability and an additional rescue truck.

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well.

About Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad

The Volunteer Rescue Squad is a 501(c)(3) charity organization contracted by Charleston County consisting of 56 volunteers and a medical control doctor who serve not only the city of North Charleston, but the entire Charleston County area. Members are certified in a variety of emergency skills, including auto extrication, fire fighting, structural collapse/urban search and rescue, diving, large animal rescue, rural search and rescue, and high angle/ technical rescue. In addition, many squad members are First Responders, EMTs and Paramedics.
