TORONTO, ONTARIO - (Marketwire) - Pizza Pizza, an active participant in the communities it serves, has made recipe and portion size changes to the food served in Ontario schools. These changes will ensure the requirements of the 2011 Ontario School Food & Beverage Policy (PPM-150), set by the Ontario Ministry of Education, are met one year early starting with the upcoming school year.
Starting September 2010, any pizza sold to an Ontario elementary school will have a modified recipe and portion size that complies with the new Ontario School Food & Beverage Policy, slated for implementation across the province in September 2011. Based on the principles of healthy eating outlined in Canada's Food Guide, the new policy rates food sold in Ontario schools to help ensure that high-quality choices are available to students.
According to a summary document released this past January for the new food and beverage policy, the Pizza Pizza recipe changes for Ontario schools will be in compliance with the 'Healthiest (Sell Most)' rating. Foods with this rating generally have higher levels of essential nutrients and lower amounts of fat, sugar and/or sodium. This category must represent at least 80 per cent of all food choices for sale in Ontario schools under the new policy.

The foods sold at Pizza Pizza chain-wide have no industrially added trans-fats, which is also in compliance with Ontario's Bill 8, introduced in 2008.
