Liberty Tax Franchise Offers Extended Hours for Extension Filers to Meet the October 15 Deadline

Countdown is Also on For Some Nonprofit Organizations

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --(BUSINESS WIRE)-- It's almost here. Taxpayers who filed an extension request in April now face the October 15, 2010 tax filing deadline for 2009 returns. Many Liberty Tax Service offices have extended their service hours to accommodate last minute filers during these last days so that taxpayers can e-file their tax information right up to the deadline.

Active military serving in combat zones and taxpayers who were victims of recent natural disasters may be eligible for additional time to file.

Individual taxpayers who owe but can't pay their total tax liability can apply to make monthly installment tax payments to the IRS by including Form 9465, Installment Agreement Request, with their tax return.

Small nonprofit organizations that are required to file a Form 990N, Electronic Notice (e-Postcard) and have not done so for the last the last 3 years need to file by October 15 or lose their tax-exempt status. Small nonprofit organizations that are eligible to file Form 990-EZ, Short Form Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, are eligible for the voluntary compliance program, and are required to complete delinquent annual information and pay a compliance fee by October 15, 2010.

Liberty Tax Service offers free advice on every option available for those who must file but may not be able to pay their total tax liability, and filing information for nonprofits. For the office hours of the nearest Liberty Tax location, call 866-871-1040.

"There are other options for those suffering financial hardships such as the Offer in Compromise program," said John Hewitt, CEO of Liberty Tax Service.
