The Keg Royalties Income Fund Posts Third Quarter Results

November 15, 2010 // Franchising.com // VANCOUVER, BC - The Keg Royalties Income Fund (the "Fund") (TSX:KEG.UN) has reported its financial results for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2010.

Gross sales reported by Keg restaurants in the Royalty Pool increased by $2,050,000 or 1.9% to $110,382,000 during the comparable quarter. Year to date, sales increased by $1,474,000 or 0.4% to $338,488,000 compared with the same period of the prior year. The gross sales include the sales of new Keg restaurants which were added to the Royalty Pool on January 1, 2010, net of same store sales decreases for the respective periods.

KRL's same store sales (sales of restaurants that operated during the entire period of both the current and prior years) were flat in Canada and decreased by 2.2% in the United States for the 13-week period ended October 3, 2010. For the 39-week period ended October 3, 2010, same store sales decreased by 0.6% in Canada and by 7.8% in the United States. After translating the sales of the U.S. restaurants into their Canadian dollar equivalent, consolidated same store sales decreased by 0.6% for the 13-week period and by 2.5% for the 39-week period. The average exchange rate declined materially in both the quarter and on a year to date basis, significantly reducing the Canadian dollar equivalent of the U.S. restaurant sales.

"We are pleased with our sales results and our strategic position relative to our competitors," said David Aisenstat, President & CEO of The Keg. "The positive momentum of The Keg's overall business continues to largely compensate for ongoing, negative, external factors such as the U.S. dollar exchange rate and uncertain consumer confidence. Thanks to our brand positioning and continued focus on strategic improvements, we believe our leadership position in the restaurant industry will remain strong."

Royalty income increased by $73,000 or 1.6% to $4,527,000 for the quarter but decreased by $41,000 or 0.3% to $13,725,000 year to date.

Earnings before income taxes for the quarter increased by $232,000 from $2,911,000 (30.0 cents/Fund unit) to $3,143,000 (29.6 cents/Fund unit) during the comparable quarter. Year to date, earnings before income taxes increased by $315,000 from $9,213,000 (94.9 cents/Fund unit) to $9,528,000 (92.7 cents/Fund unit) for the comparable period. Distributable cash available to pay distributions to public Unitholders increased by $334,000 from $2,991,000 (30.8 cents/Fund unit), to $3,325,000 (31.4 cents/Fund unit) for the comparable quarter. Year to date, distributable cash increased by $374,000 from $9,319,000 (96.0 cents/Fund unit), to $9,693,000 (94.3 cents/Fund unit) for the comparable period.
