Golden Krust Donates Over 1000 Thanksgiving Meals

November 29, 2010 // Franchising.com // Bronx, NY – On Monday November 22, Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill (GK), the largest Caribbean franchise chain in the United States fed over 1000 persons at different shelters across the five NYC boroughs for the thanksgiving holiday.

Meals consisting of turkey and of course, the chains signature jerk chicken, oxtail, rice and peas, patties and cake were served up in fine fare to several disadvantaged groups over a two day period. The chains thanksgiving outreach began on Sunday (Nov. 21) when GK franchisee Sandra Bryan of 67 South 4th Ave in Mt. Vernon, NY fed a total of 500 homeless and needy persons in her community, a project she has undertaken for the past three years. The festivities carried over to Monday November 22nd when Golden Krust's Corporate Office in conjunction with several Bronx franchisees put on a huge spread for 200 senior citizens at the Castle Hill Senior Center located at 625 Castle Hill Ave in the Bronx. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz was also on hand to share in the festivities and had high praises for Golden Krust. Drinks were donated by Grace Kennedy & Co in partnership with Golden Krust.

Later that evening, Golden Krust's executive management team along with several other franchisees provided meals for residents of four Providence House shelters in Brooklyn and Queens. In addition, over 80 children were treated to a meal along with cake and ice-cream donated by the Ice Cream Factory at the Saratoga Family Inn located on Rockaway Blvd, Queens. Food was in abundance at every location and so were the thank you's from all those who benefitted from the chain's generosity. Over one hundred and fifty residents at the West-Help Center in Westchester county were also treated to a bountiful thanksgiving meal courtesy of GK franchisee Charmaine Golding of 178 Fulton Street in White Plains, an endeavor that she has single-handedly taken on for the past three years.

"Giving back to the community for Thanksgiving has become an annual outreach for Golden Krust," said Candice Richards, GK's Marketing & PR Manager. "The company's philosophy is to put people before profit and we demonstrate our commitment to the communities in which we operate by meeting tangible needs" she added. Donating food to charitable organizations is not just a once a year event for Golden Krust. The company rarely says no to donation requests. In any given year, the chain donates over 2000 cases of patties as well as meals to various community events organized by churches, schools and non-profit organizations. "It's just our way of showing we care", she further added.
