Superior Walls(R) Supports York County, PA Project for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

June 21, 2011 // Franchising.com // NEW HOLLAND, PA. - When Superior Walls of America signed up as a proud supporter of Season 9 for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, they had no idea the first project of the season would be right down the road. On June 21, 2011, Superior Walls will provide the foundation for the makeover project for the Keefer family --- located in York County, Pa., just 30 miles away from the corporate headquarters of Superior Walls in Lancaster County, Pa.

"This first project of the season is really striking close to home," says Keith Weller, CFO for Superior Walls of America. "We're proud to assist this family by providing an energy-efficient crawl space foundation for this project."

The Keefer family, of Etters, Pa., experienced a life-changing event in 2008 when son Brian suffered a drastic gymnastics injury that paralyzed him from his neck down. The college sophomore's family rallied behind him with rehabilitation and assisted him to return to Lock Haven University. The cast of ABC-TV's popular show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, have taken on the project of providing the Keffers with a home that better accommodates Brian's needs now and in the future.

"We're on-site and ready to install the 271-lineal feet of precast concrete foundation system for the crawl space of this home," says Weller. "Our team from Superior Walls by Weaver Precast in Ephrata, Pa. will set this energy-efficient foundation in place later this afternoon so that the construction process can begin immediately."

Superior Walls, the nation's leading pre-cast concrete foundation system manufacturer, is supplying and installing custom-made basement and crawl space foundations for all of the shows in Season 9 for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

A skilled team from Superior Walls by Weaver Precast created the customized insulated panels for the home and transported them to York County for this project. The company's certified installation crew is on site to install the conditioned crawlspace foundation. It's expected that the entire installation of the crawlspace foundation will take less than five hours.

"The speed and efficiency with which we can provide an energy-efficient foundation for a home is one of the chief reasons we were selected again for another season as a supporter of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," says Weller. "On this show, speed is king. Fortunately, we deal with fast, professional installation of foundations every day."

Superior Walls foundations systems have been awarded the Green Approved Product designation by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center. The insulated foundation systems can potentially save a family a substantial amount on their total heat losses simply because their home is constructed with the right foundation system.

The steel-reinforced concrete panels created by Superior Walls are matched up in the manufacturing process with DOW® StyrofoamTM boards, providing excellent rigid foam insulation. The resulting XiTM wall panels are constructed with a concrete face shell, backed by 2-1/2-inches of extruded polystyrene insulation. In addition, the steel reinforced concrete walls create a permanent barrier against sidewall water penetration.

Installing the Foundation

Superior Walls by Weaver Precast manufactured the panels for the Keefer home in a climate-controlled environment in Ephrata, Pa. and then transported them to the home site on special carriers. Cranes are used to carefully lower the custom walls onto a bed of clean, crushed stone, where the panels will be permanently fixed into place.

"We're excited to support this home building project," says Blake Tomforde with Superior Walls by Weaver Precast. "We know this foundation is the right start for this project home. Now they'll have a warm, dry, insulated foundation system that's the perfect platform on which the volunteers will create this dream home."
