Build-A-Bear Workshop Supports JDRF in Honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month
ST. LOUIS, Oct 26, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Build-A-Bear Workshop(R), the interactive retailer of customized stuffed animals, announced today an initiative to raise funds for JDRF in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month. Throughout November, Build-A-Bear Workshop Guests can support JDRF by adding $1 to their total purchase at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores in the United States and online at buildabear.com(R). All store locations in Canada will also be offering special purple satin hearts for $1 to support JDRF. The Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation will direct the funds raised to JDRF and its chapters throughout North America.
"We are proud to support causes like JDRF that are important to our Guests," said Maxine Clark, Build-A-Bear Workshop founder and chief executive bear. "Diabetes is a growing concern among families and we join with JDRF in their dedicated efforts to finding a cure."
These efforts are focused toward JDRF's goal of improving the lives of every person affected by type 1 Diabetes (T1D), an autoimmune disease which affects as many as 3 million people in the United States alone. As the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, JDRF is working to accelerate progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. Over the last eight years, the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation has donated more than $575,000 to JDRF.
"We are grateful for the support of Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation in their generosity to JDRF," said Yvonne Miller, national director of corporate development for JDRF. "Through each dollar donated, JDRF will be able to continue to fund research for type 1 diabetes."
Build-A-Bear Workshop believes in the teddy bear philosophy of being good people and good bears. Throughout its 14 year history, Build-A-Bear Workshop has given Guests a voice in supporting causes that are important to them, including children's health and wellness, literacy and education, animals and the environment. Since the company's inception, Build-A-Bear Workshop has donated more than $30 million to these causes.
