Survey Says Consumers Miss the Mark With Holiday Manners and Forget Batteries; Majority Say Canned Cranberry Sauce Is ″So Right″
70% of Americans Plan To Buy Majority Of Gifts In-Stores Versus Online

The findings revealed the items that consumers are most likely to forget this holiday season, where shoppers plan on doing the majority of their spending - in-store vs. online - and holiday staples that make their "So Right" list this year.
Making A List, Checking It Twice
During the season of giving thanks, survey results seem to indicate that one of the most forgotten items is the thank you note. According to the collected data, 18-34 year olds seem to be the most absent minded, with 55% overlooking thank you notes, 50% forgetting to buy batteries and 44% forgoing the holiday letter.
Younger age groups (18-34 and 35-44 years old), are more likely to forget the holiday niceties--especially when it comes to writing thank you notes and sending holiday cards. Additional questioning revealed that 18-34 year olds were twice as likely as their older (65+) counterparts to forget to buy batteries along with their gifts (50% vs. 25%). Forgotten items for consumers of all ages included: thank you notes (44%), holiday cards or letters (37%), batteries and accessories for gifts (36% and 31% respectively), hostess gifts (29%), keeping the camera battery charged (28%) and extra wrapping paper (25%).
Shop 'Til You Drop
Surprisingly, crazy crowds and packed parking lots aren't stopping shoppers from hitting the stores this holiday season. When asked where they will spend precious shopping time, 70% of consumers surveyed said they still plan to do the majority of their holiday shopping in-store this year while only 26% of consumers said they plan to do 50% or more of their shopping on the web.
Perhaps what is not surprising is that age appeared to have the greatest impact on whether people click their way to holiday happiness or head to the mall for a dose of holiday cheer. Younger age groups are more likely than their older counterparts to do most of their gift buying online, and 30% of 18-34 year olds plan to do at least half of their holiday shopping online, compared to just 16% of those aged 65 or older. Conversely, two in five (39%) of those aged 65 or older plan to do all of their shopping in-stores, compared to just 25% of 18-34 year olds.
Fruitcake: Friend or Foe?
Though much maligned, Americans stand divided on whether fruitcake is "so right" or "so wrong," with older generations much more likely than those younger to say fruitcake is "so right." Nearly 2 in 5 (38%) respondents aged 65 and older say fruitcake is "so right," compared to just 1 in 5 (22%) of 35-44 year olds. When asked to rate their sentiments about holiday staples, women (58%) are more apt than men (48%)--10-points more likely--to consider canned cranberry sauce, "so right," ridges and all.
