Fresh Coat Painters Launches Franchise to Serve Minnesota West of Minneapolis

After 23 years as a mortgage broker serving the Twin Cities, Jerry Fancher has launched his Fresh Coat Painters franchise as a way to continue contributing to the long-term strength of his community.

Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) December 15, 2011 - Fresh Coat Painters has launched a new franchise in Minnesota with the addition of Jerry Fancher’s business to serve Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Edina, Long Lake, Wayzata, Mound, West Bloomington and their surrounding communities just west of Minneapolis.

For Fancher, starting his franchise was a way to continue to contribute to the communities that he has served through more than 23 years in the mortgage industry, most recently as owner of his own mortgage brokerage firm. “People are not going to do a major renovation right now,” he said. “But they will spend money to improve the look of their property – to make it an attractive, comfortable place for themselves.”

“During the last 11 years, I mostly was doing construction loans,” he said. “In the last three, it’s mostly been renovation loans.”

Fancher said he sees this shift as people making more of an investment in the homes or businesses they currently own, and his decision to buy a franchise was led by that awareness.

“People are not going to do a major renovation right now,” he said. “But they will spend money to improve the look of their property – to make it an attractive, comfortable place for themselves.”

An ad on LinkedIn prompted him to check out Fresh Coat.

“I was ready to get out of the mortgage side of the industry,” Fancher said. “I decided to look at the Fresh Coat model. All the thinking, the processes, are already there. And I knew I had a brand that was willing to stand behind me.”

He also researched his community and found that Fresh Coat’s prices were “right in the ballpark” for painting companies, so he knew could compete in that market.

Bernie Brozek, president of Fresh Coat, said the company’s business model does set it apart from other franchise operations.

“Jerry is the type of person who does a lot of research, and what he found reaffirms much of what our other franchise owners tell us,” Brozek said. “We offer a level of professionalism that is appreciated because our owners are not painters, but business people. They spend their time promoting and growing their businesses while the client service managers and experienced painters ensure that each project is done well and to the client’s satisfaction. Everyone in the operation uses his or her own best skills to the benefit of the client.”

Fancher said that model was one of the keys to his decision to buy.

“No part of me would say ‘you’re going to be a painter,’” he said. “I appreciate what painters do – my father was a painter – and I wanted an organization that treated them right. I’ve seen too many situations where employees are not being taken care of or the employer tries to squeeze them. With Fresh Coat, we hire employees, never subcontractors, so my job is to ensure they get to work full-time, do quality work, and receive fair compensation. I’m going to do what I can to have happy employees, so that I can recruit, hire and keep the best workers. That ensures I’m going to have happy clients.”

Brozek said the Fresh Coat business model does attract quality painters because most of them want to spend their time painting, not pursuing the next job or managing the books.

“Our owners handle those aspects of the operation,” he said, “and we help promote their success by providing them with excellent marketing, training and resource materials.”

Among them are several client assistance programs including a 24/7 call center, proprietary EPIC estimating system, Paint Now-Pay Later same-as-cash financing, Automatic Touch-Up for businesses, and fund-raising opportunities for charities.

“The vendor set-up was in place,” Fancher said. “The foresight is already there – the support, the plan. Starting a new business can be overwhelming, but Fresh Coat makes it much easier. And the services for clients set it apart.

“The 24-7 call center has been in place for a long time, and it’s in the United States, which people appreciate these days. Clients, and potential clients, can know that when they call, they’ll get a live person. That’s huge.”

Fancher said he and his wife, Dianne, co-owner of the franchise, also appreciate being able to give back to their community.

“It’s about doing what’s right,” Fancher said. “I’ve coached sports, served on the basketball board, and helped develop an educational committee with other mortgage brokers. We support the Eden Prairie Boosters, and our plan is to team up with them. The more we can do with them, the more the entire community can benefit.”
