Toys"R"Us, INC. Appoints Roger Mclaughlan Managing Director, Toys"R"Us, U.K.

A Seasoned Retail Executive, Mr. McLaughlan Will Oversee Business Operations Including Nearly 80 Stores and More than 4,200 Employees in the U.K.

January 19, 2012 // Franchising.com // WAYNE, NJ– Toys"R"Us, Inc. today announced the appointment of Roger McLaughlan as Managing Director, Toys"R"Us, U.K., effective January 16, 2012. Mr. McLaughlan oversees all operations and business activities for the company’s nearly 80 stores, corporate office and more than 4,200 employees in the United Kingdom. In this role, he is also responsible for marketing, merchandising, store operations and customer service excellence. Mr. McLaughlan reports to Antonio Urcelay, President, Toys"R"Us, Europe.

Mr. Urcelay said, “Roger is a seasoned retail executive who brings 25 years of experience to his new role in leading our Toys"R"Us, U.K. operations. I look forward to working with Roger as we continue to grow and develop the company’s business throughout the U.K.”

Mr. McLaughlan stated, “Toys"R"Us is truly one of the most iconic retail brands in the world, and I am delighted to join the U.K. team. Together, we will work to leverage the company’s toy and juvenile products authority position to provide our customers with a differentiated shopping experience.”

Mr. McLaughlan joins Toys"R"Us, U.K. from ASDA, Great Britain’s second largest supermarket chain, and a subsidiary of Walmart, where he worked for three years. Most recently, he served as Managing Director, ASDA Living, the company’s general merchandise store group. His career at ASDA also included a key role as Retail and Marketing Director for George, the company’s proprietary clothing line, overseeing all retail and marketing activity for that business. Prior to joining ASDA, Mr. McLaughlan was Chief Executive Officer for Floors-2-Go, the largest flooring specialist in the U.K.

Earlier in his career, Mr. McLaughlan held various positions throughout the retail industry, including executive roles at Woolworth’s South Africa, Marks and Spencer and Stylo Group.
