Auntie Anne’s Inc. Tests Whole Grain Menu Items in Select Markets

Soft Pretzel Icon Caters to Consumer Shift

January 26, 2012 // Franchising.com // LANCASTER, Pa. – Auntie Anne’s, the franchise known best for its fresh, convenient and hand-rolled treats, began testing new whole grain pretzel products on January 8, 2012 in select markets across the US as part of a mission to better appeal to guests looking to consume more whole grains. Not only are the Honey Whole Wheat Pretzels and Apple Caramel Pretzel Stix packed with whole grains and boast the Whole Grains Council stamp of approval, but the limited-time menu items are also gaining a reputation for their great taste.

The Honey Whole Wheat Pretzel, offered until April 7, 2012, is made with whole grain dough and contains six grams of fiber. Auntie Anne’s is currently testing the new pretzel at 32 franchised store locations in Seattle, WA, Indianapolis, IN and in select Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware locations. The average price point is $2.79.

The warm and comforting Apple Caramel Pretzel Stix combine two classic American flavors – apple and caramel. The product is also made with whole grain dough and will be tested from January 8, 2012 to April 7, 2012 in 32 select franchised store locations in Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Illinois. The average price point is $3.09.

“With 65 percent of adults looking to add more whole grain products into their diets, Auntie Anne’s is working to meet our guests’ request with a treat that gives them the great taste they expect from Auntie Anne’s,” said Carl Hornberger, Auntie Anne’s Director of Menu Management. “At Auntie Anne’s, we only serve great tasting pretzels, and we believe the Honey Whole Wheat Pretzels and Apple Caramel Pretzel Stix will become a popular treat for the uncompromising whole grain snacker.”

The American palate has become much more receptive to the consumption of whole grains, and Auntie Anne’s is proactive in responding to the shift. Auntie Anne’s fulltime core pretzel lineup includes Original, Cinnamon Sugar, Almond, Sour Cream and Onion and Garlic, and the product line also features Pretzel Dogs, and signature frozen drinks and numerous sauces for dipping. Like all pretzels at Auntie Anne’s, the Honey Whole Wheat Pretzel and Apple Caramel Pretzel Stix are freshly rolled and baked and come with a 30-minute freshness guarantee.
