Orangetheory Fitness Eyes International Expansion as Franchise Sales Grow in U.S.

Ascente Group announces plans to develop studios in Canada.

March 14, 2012 // Franchising.com // Ft. Lauderdale, FL – The Ascente Group, franchisers of Orangetheory Fitness (www.orangetheoryfitness.com), the energizing heart-rate-monitored interval fitness concept that is sweeping the nation, will expand the franchise internationally, beginning with Canada in 2012.

“We’re excited about taking this step in the growth of Orangetheory Fitness – this is just the beginning of our international expansion, as we’re currently looking for additional targets including South America, Europe, Asia – we’ve had interest from Australia and the UK already,” said Terry Blachek, Partner at Orangetheory Fitness. “Orangetheory Fitness Canada is in the hands of a great leader in the fitness industry, and we look forward to the expansion there.”

Prominent fitness industry leader and businessman, David Hardy, President of Franvest Capital Partners, has secured the rights to Orangetheory Fitness in Canada. He has been actively involved in the purchase and sale of private and publicly held companies since 1990, owning and operating numerous companies in retail, manufacturing, software and hospitality. A private investment firm specializing in growing companies, Franvest Capital Partners has extensive experience in the fitness industry, currently invested in International Fitness Holdings, Inc. which operates 23 clubs in Alberta under the World Health and Spa Lady brands. Hardy is also President of the Fitness Industry Council of Canada, which represents thousands of fitness clubs, and serves on the board of IHRSA, a worldwide fitness club association. Initial plans include developing Orangetheory Fitness franchises in Alberta and Ontario, Canada.

Blachek says most franchise growth has come from new openings in the last six months in the U.S., where Orangetheory Fitness has 20 studios in five states and approximately 10 more in development. “We continue to look for area developers and franchisees in U.S. markets, where there is considerable opportunity, and look forward to continued success at existing studios,” Blachek noted.

Orangetheory Fitness is the first national fitness concept to leverage heart rate monitors for scientifically proven results. Each 60-minute Orangetheory Fitness (www.orangetheoryfitness.com) session is broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training, which produces a tremendous metabolic increase and calorie burn for up to 36 hours after the workout. The concept has received media attention for its unique approach, results and member testimonials.
