Local Entrepreneur Opens BookKeeping Express Office in Bangor, Maine

Provides Central Maine’s Small Businesses Professional Bookkeeping Services

March 16, 2012 // Franchising.com // BANGOR, ME– BookKeeping Express, the first U.S. franchise focused solely on bookkeeping services, today announced the opening of its first office in Maine serving businesses throughout Bangor, Maine and the surrounding areas in Penobscot, Hancock, Waldo, Knox and Lincoln counties. Situated close to the waterfront at 49 Haymarket Square, BookKeeping Express offers a much-needed service to small businesses, so they can get back to doing what they do best.

“A void exists locally for skilled bookkeeping services that focus on the small business community,” said Rod Black, owner of BookKeeping Express in Bangor. “We look forward to bringing professional bookkeeping services to the Bangor area and becoming part of the Bookkeeping Express family. BookKeeping Express has more than 20 years of experience in the industry and their proven business model will provide us with the marketing and operations support we need to help grow the business, which will enable us to help others grow theirs.”

A Brewer native, Rod has worked in the accounting industry for more than 30 years, starting as a Plant Accountant for Bangor Hydro Electric Company and retiring as Controller/Treasurer. Once retired, and always wanting to be a small business owner, Rod became a financial advisor, opening his own practice with RT Ziegler Financial Services through Royal Alliance. Looking for ways to expand his business and stay involved in the accounting industry, Rod decided that a BookKeeping Express franchise would be a perfect option to implement his expertise and provide his son, who’s expressed interest in the field, with an established business model he can one day take over.

“So many otherwise sound businesses fail to account for their financial dealings, which in turn hinders their revenues and growth. They want to efficiently move forward, but without knowing how to best utilize their financial data, they often feel frustrated and overwhelmed…and that’s where we come in,” added Black. “Joining the BookKeeping Express family gives me the support I need to reach my goals and, at the same time, provides me and my family the ability to offer local businesses the expertise, support and resources they need without the large firm cost.”

BookKeeping Express’ services include setting up charts of accounts and general ledgers, monthly data entry, processing and managing accounts payable and accounts receivable, producing monthly reports and tax reporting. Plus, BookKeeping Express utilizes a flexible pricing model that is based on the clients’ needs instead of a one-size-fits-all, hourly billing approach.

The expansion into the Bangor area is part of the company’s aggressive national development plans which call for more than 400 new territories throughout the United Sates.

“The small business community is growing in Central Maine and around the country, and BookKeeping Express is expanding with it, providing qualified individuals with a niche franchise option that caters to this growing segment,” said Greg Jones, CEO of BookKeeping Express. “We are looking to grow with franchise partners such as Rod who are serious about owning a business and sincere about their desire to fill a void in their communities with our distinctive services.”

As part of the BookKeeping Express franchise model, Black has the support of the BookKeeping Express Team Center to take care of any outsourced bookkeeping needs so he can focus his attention on his business and client consultation. This gives him the ability to grow his business without hiring additional employees. The U.S.-based Team Center, located in Boise, Idaho, also serves as a new sales channel for BookKeeping Express franchise offices.

In addition, the new BookKeeping Express office offers the BKE Connect system, which allows businesses access to all bookkeeping files remotely through an outside server, as well as a dashboard that clearly and visually ‘sums’ up the business’ operations for thorough analysis. Plus, small to mid-sized business owners can synchronize their QuickBooks and enjoy convenient, anytime access to their financial documents through BKE EDocs, a new electronic filing system designed to provide secure, online storage of financial documents.
