Aging Baby Boomers Face Emotional and Affordable Decision on Selling the Family Home

DALLAS, April 17, 2012 // PRNewswire // -- It can be a wrenching decision: What to do with the family home when aging parents no longer live there? It's a question fraught with emotional, financial and logistical concerns, particularly for the 10,000 or so baby boomers who become eligible for Medicare every day and whose parents are most likely well into their 80s.

"Often the home is in need of repair, family members might live out of town and few have the money or the time to fix-up the homestead for sale," said HomeVestors co-president David Hicks.

Also known as We Buy Ugly Houses®, the company was founded and began franchising in 1996 and since then, has purchased over 50,000 homes nationwide. "I know from personal experience how hard it is to sell the family homestead," Hicks noted. "We spend a lot of time making that process as easy as possible."

Just ask the family of Kathy Marion of Somerville, Massachusetts, who said, "The HomeVestors office was very professional and friendly. They really simplified the home selling process for us."

Bob Ramsey of Barnhart, Missouri tells a similar story. "Letting go is hard to do. At least that's the way my sister and I felt when it came to selling my parents' home. I saw the job of cleaning out their home, repairing and selling it, as an overwhelming and time consuming burden. That's when I decided to talk to HomeVestors."

HomeVestors' customers also include people facing foreclosure, people who have been transferred, retirees looking to downsize and couples involved in a divorce. "Most are people who need to sell their homes quickly and are looking for a quick cash buyout, without the hassles typically associated with a traditional sale," Hicks explained. "We go even further by paying all normal closing costs, buying homes in an 'as is' condition, and closing quickly, usually within 15 business days."

Trying to sell a home in this economy can prove to be a challenge. Older homes generally have extensive repair issues and may need updating and can be even more challenging. "Since a seller is never obligated to sell the home to HomeVestors just for making an offer," said Hicks. "Our process is simple and won't cost you anything. We understand the issues surrounding selling your family home to minimize both financial and emotional stress."
