Smashburger Smashes Into Calgary Stampede With Ultimate Burger Battle

Second location opens in Royal Oak with stampede-themed burger battle and 'year of free burgers' giveaway.

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 21, 2012) - Smashburger, America's fastest growing "better burger" restaurant, is opening its second location in Calgary on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Royal Oak Centre, #319 - 8888 Country Hills Blvd NW. Situated in Royal Oak, the second location follows the tremendously successful launch of the first-ever Canadian restaurant, which opened in early May 2012 in the city's northeast.

Smashburger offers gourmet burgers that are cooked to perfection using their signature "smashing" technique. Served fresh with a selection of high quality toppings and variety of sides, the Royal Oak location will also feature the regional Alberta-inspired menu which includes items such as the Calgary Smashburger, Calgary chicken sandwich, and MacKay's milkshakes, all which cater to homegrown tastes and support local suppliers.

In honour of the grand opening, Smashburger will welcome some of the city's most prominent food writers and bloggers for a Stampede Burger Battle, including: Gwendolyn Richards, The Calgary Herald; Dan Clapson, Dan's Good Side; Julie Van Rosendaal, Dinner with Julie; Gabriel Hall, Le Voyage Gourmand; and Pierre Lamielle, Kitchen Scraps. The winner will earn city-wide foodie bragging rights.

Smashburger will also be giving away a year's worth of free burgers to one lucky visitor during the grand opening. A ballot box is available onsite for entry and the winner will be drawn on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
