Window Genie’s Open Window of Opportunity for Individuals on the Job Hunt

Window Genie’s proven business plan has helped them grow to almost 100 units during its 17 years in business.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) June 27, 2012 - During these tough economic times, many Americans have found themselves without jobs. Starting a business means having control over one’s income, schedule and success. Window Genie is the Cincinnati based franchisor known to “Clean Windows, and a Whole Lot More!” Window Genie franchises are available throughout the United States including master franchise opportunities. Window Genie’s proven business plan has helped them grow to almost 100 units during its 17 years in business.

Greg Fletcher of Richmond, VA fell victim to the failing economy like many Americans, and was laid off from his job as an engineer in 2009. Fletcher’s subsequent job hunt seemed as though it would uproot his family for the fourth time, something he was not willing to do again. With roots down in Richmond, Fletcher explored the idea of either buying an existing business or starting his own. Like many displaced workers, Fletcher felt the need to seek a job with more stability and one in which he could control his own success.

After being randomly selected to the Richmond GATE (Growing America Through Entrepreneurship) program, he became more serious with his search. The GATE program runs through the Department of Labor to encourage displaced workers over 45 years old to find a way back into the working world. GATE provides training classes that cover ‘how to start a business,’ ‘how to network’ and ‘how to write a business plan.’ During this process, Fletcher met a man named Gus Uirillo, a franchise coach for The Entrepreneur Source, or TES. TES coaches guide prospective business owners towards options that fit them based on interests, strengths and weaknesses that are discovered through a testing process. Ultimately, Window Genie made its way to the top of Fletcher’s list for a number of reasons. “I was excited to try something new, and what a better time than the present, I thought,” said Fletcher. “Window Genie allows for multiple revenue streams, minimal seasonality and provides services that every homeowner needs!”

At that time, the corporate staff at Window Genie consisted of three individuals, Richard Nonelle, Ken Fisk and Debbie Owens; CEO, VP of Franchise Relations and Administrative Manager, respectively. Since bringing Fletcher on-board, Window Genie’s corporate team has grown from three individuals to 14. Named Entrepreneur Magazines 41st fastest growing franchise, Window Genie does not plan to slow down. “We seek to offer the most effective guidance and support for all the franchise owners,” said Nonelle. “Our business plan has helped us grow over these 17 years and we are pleased to award franchises all over the country that go on to create jobs in those local communities.” New Window Genie franchise owners spend one week of training at the Cincinnati corporate office and follow that with one week of on-site training with corporate personnel before the grand opening of that location.

Fletcher looks back on his decision and is glad he chose franchising. “It was a completely new career path I was taking, so having the support from corporate and never feeling alone made it much less scary. It is truly my business here in Richmond and I manage all my employees and the day-to-day, but there’s always someone to turn to in Cincinnati if I need it.” Some aspects of owning a business that Fletcher is grateful for are his abilities to control his own success, schedule and income. “Gaining referrals, hearing rave reviews and being able to make a difference in the look and value of homes in my community feels great. I like that I can train my own personnel to the point of independence and truly manage my business as an owner. I don’t have to go out and clean all the windows or install all the film myself, so I have time to work on growing my business. There was a lot to learn when I opened, but I worked through it using my past experience. I have taken control of my own success, and I’m glad I chose this.”

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, only 62% of independent businesses make it through the first year versus 96% of franchises. Surprisingly, a recent Gallop Poll found that after 5 years only 23% of independent businesses are still left, compared with an astounding 94% of franchise businesses. Franchise buyers are following a blueprint to pattern their business from. They are able to visit and observe a franchise business in operation. They also benefit from volume buying, customized programs and down the road, have access to information regarding industry trends and changes.
