Fresh Coat Painters Extends Illinois Operations into Aurora, Naperville, Oswego and Plainfield

After being laid off from his job last year, Allan Moss decided he no longer wanted to work for someone else. Next week he launches his Fresh Coat Painters franchise to serve Aurora, Ill., and its surrounding communities.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) July 05, 2012 - Fresh Coat Painters is expanding its operations in Illinois with the launch of Allan Moss’ franchise to serve Aurora, Naperville, Oswego, Plainfield and their surrounding communities. He officially opens Fresh Coat Painters of Aurora on July 9 and already has plans to participate in The Old House New House Home Show in St. Charles Sept. 29-30.

Like many others in this economy, Moss was laid off last year from a position he had enjoyed. Also like so many others, he decided it was time to chart his own course.

“I decided then that I do not want to work for anyone else any longer,” he said.

With his background in sales, supply chains and computers, Moss first considered opening his own computer service business. Soon he discovered that it would not be profitable enough for his needs.

“After thinking about it, I chose to look into home improvement businesses because they’re always pretty stable,” he said. “Expectations are reasonable. Start-up costs are affordable. And I can make a reasonable profit.”

His exploration of the industry led him to Fresh Coat where he found the people to be “happy and positive,” he said. “They were upfront, honest, friendly, and they laid out a plan for success. All my questions were answered.”

Painting also was a business where he could see a real need in his community.

“Most people don’t have the time or the equipment to tackle the job,” he said. “And many people have reached a point where they have no desire to be climbing on ladders. I see this as a growing area with lots of potential. People are willing to pay for quality services at affordable prices.”

Bernie Brozek, president of Fresh Coat, said the Fresh Coat business model does attract professionals like Moss.

“Our owners understand that running a painting company isn’t just about painting,” he said. “It’s about providing top-notch service from the client’s initial phone call throughout the project and into the follow-up. The goal is to establish a long-term relationship that ensures clients feel comfortable not only in using the services again and again, but also referring the company to others for their needs.”

Moss said the Fresh Coat approach made sense to him.

“It’s too hard to try to start everything from scratch,” he said. “With Fresh Coat, everything was logical. As an owner, my focus is on promoting and growing the business. The actual work is done by experienced painters who are Fresh Coat employees. We don’t use subcontractors, so clients can know] that the people working in their home work for the same company they contracted.”

Interestingly, when Moss began to interview potential employees, he found that they had “checked out” him and Fresh Coat.

“By the time they met me, they already knew a lot about the company and were already enthusiastic,” he said. “I’ve had no difficulty finding experienced painters who would welcome the opportunity to work with me. Most have had at least 15 years’ experience, and a few have other skills they can offer such as basic carpentry or drywall skills. I’ve found a lot of good people ready to work.”

Brozek said Moss’ experience is not uncommon.

“The industry has suffered with a bad reputation for fly-by-night operators,” he said. “What we’ve found is that good painters want to work for a company that’s going to provide them with steady employment year-round. Our structure makes that possible because our owners get the support they need in the way of marketing, training and resource materials.”

Moss said he especially appreciated the guidance in marketing because he had done “some marketing in the past, but nothing like this.”

He also welcomed the multiple client assistance programs available to him as a franchisee. These include a 24/7 call center, proprietary EPIC estimating system, Paint Now-Pay Later same-as-cash financing, Automatic Touch-Up for businesses, and fund-raising opportunities for charities.

“I appreciate the 24/7 call center,” Moss said. “It’s important that clients and potential clients are able to reach a live person whenever they want. I also appreciate the support I receive from the corporate office and from my fellow franchisees. It’s great having a group that ensures I can get whatever I need to better serve my clients.”
