Fresh Coat Painters Opens First Virginia Franchise in Richmond, Mechanicsville and Hanover Areas

Fresh Coat Painters has expanded into Virginia with the opening of its first franchise there. Owned by Christy Cooper, it will serve Richmond area home and property owners.

Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) July 26, 2012 - After more than a decade in pharmaceutical sales, Christy Cooper sought a business opportunity that better suited her creative spirit and her busy lifestyle as a minister’s wife and mother of four. Launching Fresh Coat Painters of Richmond, Va., filled the prescription for her.

Cooper said she was impressed by the company's focus on client services. “I like that our painters are professionals who will show up on time, neatly dressed, and represent my company well. It’s a real selling point with clients.”

“The health care industry has changed dramatically in the last 10 years,” she said. “I was ready to make a change, and after finishing my MBA, I decided to pursue my goal of having my own business. Fresh Coat seemed like a good fit between my desire for structure combined with creativity.”

Before selecting Fresh Coat, she explored dozens of other franchises.

“I wanted a franchise because I wanted to avoid all the things that can go wrong when you start a business,” she said. “I wanted a proven business model. At the same time, I wanted something I liked, enjoyed and wanted to do day in and day out. When I thought about the painting industry, everything fell into place.”

Cooper investigated other painting franchises and chose Fresh Coat because “everyone was so supportive and headed toward the same goal.”

“Other franchises were not focused on my success down the road,” she said. “With Fresh Coat, I knew they were going to be there. They were not going to just throw me to the wolves.” Bernie Brozek, president of Fresh Coat, said helping franchise owners succeed is of paramount importance.

“As a professional woman, Christy brings enthusiasm, intelligence and communication skills to her new role,” he said. “We strive to complement our owners’ inherent abilities with solid training, marketing and resource materials to ensure their long-term success. Like our other owners, Christy understands that running a painting business isn’t just about painting. It’s about building relationships with clients, so they feel confident in using the services again and again and in referring the company to their friends and family members.”

Cooper said the support has paid off already in her territory of Richmond, Mechanicsville, Hanover, Henrico and their surrounding Virginia communities.

“The training was so informative that I was able to hit the ground running,” she said, noting she was bidding and booking jobs much more quickly than she thought possible.

Fresh Coat’s quality marketing materials along with its connections to national accounts, such as Sherwin-Williams, have proved extremely valuable, she said. Most importantly, she quickly found and hired professional painters who appreciated that they were employees and not subcontractors.

“I interviewed several painters who had had their own businesses, and more than one said that their businesses failed because they couldn’t be out marketing the business and stay on the ladder,” she said. “Others said they did not get enough hours, weren’t paid on time, or were simply treated unfairly or unkindly. With me promoting the business and booking jobs, I should be able to provide them with the 40 hours a week that they want.”

Brozek said Cooper’s experience is common.

“We’ve found that quality painters like to paint, and they want steady employment that allows them to build a better future for themselves and their families,” he said. “With our business model, they can put their skills to use providing the best services for clients. Clients appreciate their expertise. And because the owners, client service managers and painters all work for the same company, there are no strange vehicles in the driveway. Clients get the best skills from their initial phone call throughout the project and into the follow-up.”

Cooper agreed. “I like that our painters are professionals who will show up on time, neatly dressed, and represent my company well. It’s a real selling point with clients.”

Support from the company also provides her with other client support services, she said. Among those are a 24/7 call center, proprietary EPIC estimating system, Paint Now-Pay Later same-as-cash financing, Automatic Touch-Up for businesses, and fund-raising opportunities for charities.

“Our EPIC system is especially helpful in that it eliminates the guesswork that causes so many painters to miscalculate their bids,” she said. “Clients are pretty impressed that I can give them a computer-generated printout on the spot that lists not only what work will be done, but also how long it will take and exactly how much it will cost.”
