Seniors Helping Seniors of Northern Colorado Provides Resources to Community, Helps Teach Powerful Tools for Caregivers Classes

FORT COLLINS, CO - (Marketwire - Aug 15, 2012) - Seniors Helping Seniors of Northern Colorado is pleased to announce that they are assisting with the planning and instruction of an upcoming session of Powerful Tools for Caregivers series of classes in the northern Colorado area. All individuals looking to learn more about at home care for their family and friends are encouraged to look into Powerful Tools for Caregivers. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is for anyone who is caring for a loved one and needs support. The class teaches family caregivers tools for taking care of themselves while taking care of someone with a chronic illness or disability and provides tools for coping with difficult situations in a positive and healthy manner.

Linda Gabel, Seniors Helping Seniors of Northern Colorado franchise owner, is a class leader for Powerful Tools for Caregivers. She assists others with setting up and planning the ongoing class schedule throughout northern Colorado. The Aspen Club at Poudre Valley Hospital is the location of the October 3 through November 17 classes in Fort Collins. Linda Gabel of Seniors Helping Seniors will be a class leader at these sessions, which begin at 5:30 PM and last for 90 minutes.

Linda Gabel of Seniors Helping Seniors says, "Statistics indicated that frequently the caregiver may become ill while taking care of someone else due to the stress of continual care giving. These classes provide tools for dealing with many types of situations and also provide support to let caregivers know that their feelings of frustration at times are normal. We encourage anyone who is caring full time for a loved one to attend these classes."

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a nationally recognized program sustained by collaborations by local organizations. It has over 1,700 class leaders trained in 32 states. The program is based on the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program developed by professors at Stanford University. Content and topics covered during the classes include: stress management, positivity, communication, emotional control and decision-making tools. Classes are also available in Spanish.

These are no-cost classes meant to provide education for families looking to provide at home care for their family members and friends. The class groups meet once a week for six weeks. Powerful Tools for Caregivers suggests a $25 donation to help defer the costs of the books and educational materials. However, the donation is not required to attend the class. The class also requires registration as it can only accommodate a limited class size.
