New Survey Uncovers Presidential Candidate Americans Would Most Like to Have a Hamburger With

October 23, 2012 // Franchising.com // DENVER, CO - With the Presidential election coming down the home stretch, both candidates are hard at work debating issues like healthcare policy, unemployment and economic stimulus programs to secure votes. Rather than focusing on the issues that divide us, Smashburger, the nation’s fastest growing better burger restaurant, asks a basic question that unites us all – which Presidential candidate would Americans most want to have a hamburger with?

An online survey of 2,094 ages 18 and older, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Smashburger, found that nearly three in five, or 59 percent, of U.S. adults would most like to have a hamburger with President Barack Obama, while two in five, or 41 percent, want to grab a burger with Governor Mitt Romney.

“As both campaigns continue to sizzle, we thought it would be fun to survey Americans to find out which Presidential candidate they would most like to have a hamburger with,” said David Prokupek, chairman and CEO of Smashburger. “But, like rest of the nation, we will have to wait until November for the final results. We wish both candidates the best.”

Of the 59% of U.S. adults who would most like to have a hamburger with Presidential candidate President Barack Obama, 64 percent hail from the Midwest, 55 percent from the South, 61 percent from the Northeast and 59 percent from the West. Younger adults chose President Obama over their older counterparts, 64 percent of 18-34 vs. 54 percent of those 55+. Additionally, 66 percent of women 18-34 and 45-54, respectively, would most want to have a hamburger with President Obama over 51 percent of women age 55+.

Of the 41 percent of U.S. adults who would most like to have a hamburger with Presidential candidate Governor Mitt Romney, 36 percent are from the Midwest, 45 percent from the South, 39 percent from the Northeast and 41 percent from the West. 46 percent of older adults 55+ selected Presidential candidate Governor Romney over 36 percent of younger adults 18-34. Similarly, 49 percent of women 55+ most want to have a hamburger with Presidential candidate Governor Romney over 34 percent of women 18-34 and 45-54, respectively.

The survey also uncovered which former U.S. Presidents Americans would most want to have a hamburger with – Bill Clinton, 22 percent, followed by Abraham Lincoln, 15 percent, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, 14 percent, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Theodore Roosevelt, five percent, George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, four percent.
