New Regional Development Franchising Model Enabling Mature Adults to Redefine the Aging Experience Now Available through ActiveRX

Arizona-Based Company Seeks Qualified Regional Developers To Expand Active Aging Center Concept Nationally

October 25, 2012 // Franchising.com // CHANDLER, Ariz. – Answering a dilemma for many older Americans who believe they can no longer address the physical challenges facing them, ActiveRx, a Chandler-based company, is offering a new and innovative business opportunity for regional developers who would like to be in the business of “active aging” and preventative senior healthcare.

With a variety of proprietary programs and services validating that all problems and pains of aging are preventable, ActiveRx is in the process of opening a network of “Active Aging Centers” throughout the country. The company is helping seniors recognize the fact that they do not have to “let nature take its course” in regards to physical limitations and diseases that often impede independent living and a high quality of life.

ActiveRx currently has regional development and franchise agreements in place in Arizona, Colorado, southern California, north Texas, Illinois and Michigan and is looking for “additional regional developers throughout the country, especially California, Florida and additional territories in Texas,” according to Matt Essex, founder and chief executive officer.

Essex and his team have designed and developed a new and innovative system designed to prevent injuries, falls and illnesses that interfere with senior adults’ ability to live active and independent lives. Through the implementation of a personal and highly-customized system – founded on more than a decade of scientific research and evidence-based practices – ActiveRx helps mature adults maintain and/or regain their strength to sustain their independence and autonomy.

“’Choose How You Age” is our battle cry to this population because we know the difference between aging the usual way or redefining your aging is truly a matter of choices,” said Essex, who developed and evolved the business model to fill the evident voids that exist in the healthcare system for serving older adults.

“ActiveRx provides the environment, the system and the support network necessary to facilitate meaningful lifestyle changes that could improve the overall health and function for millions of older adults who have lost their quality of life,” Essex added.

According to the 2010 Census, there currently are 38 million Americans over age 65 and another 76 million Baby Boomers who began turning 65 earlier on Jan. 1, 2011. These mature adults are looking forward to a life expectancy that is higher than that of any previous generation and many are proactive in seeking services to help them retain their independence.

"Both our own research and others continues to validate that strength loss in aging is the number one contributor to falls, loss of mobility, and loss of ability to remain physically active,” Essex added. “The good news is that strength loss is preventable and strength can be regained at any age. And this leads to a cascade of health benefits that are almost unquantifiable, except to say that we are changing lives in a big way!” he said. “The timing is perfect to be in the senior healthcare industry.

Essex believes that ActiveRx is positioned to emerge as the nation’s leading provider of active aging services through its Active Aging Centers.

ActiveRx currently has Active Aging Centers in place in Scottsdale, Sun Lakes and Surprise/Sun City West, Ariz.; Torrance, Calif.; Engelwood, Colo.; McKinney, Texas; West Bloomfield, Mich., and Chicago, Ill.

The business model provides a high return on investment potential in a low overhead and low patient volume model that fulfills a unique niche in the national healthcare continuum.

Don Mecsey, the first independent ActiveRx franchisee who opened his Active Aging Center late in 2010 in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise, said, “The company business model provides a highly-structured system specifically designed for mature adults. All services are administered by specifically-trained, degreed and licensed professionals who work in concert to encourage each patient to achieve their personal ‘optimal state of prevention’ in a safe and effective manner. It's the one-on-one care that's separates ActiveRx from other old adult service providers. We have a waiting list of patients who want to enhance their physical function to prolong their ability to live independent and active lives.”

Michael Hutta, chief operating officer at ActiveRx who heads up company franchising and regional development efforts, said the business model is designed to help people age gracefully so that they can continue doing all the things they love to do.

“Prospective franchisees and regional developers do not necessarily have to have a medical background,” Hutta said. “Our requirements ask for our business partners to be mission qualified, professionally qualified and financially qualified. We’re looking for committed professionals who care about enhancing the physical functionality of aging adults and have a passion for providing a solution to one of our country’s most important challenges.”

Hutta said ActiveRx provides franchisees and regional developers with a wide assortment of services that enhance the chances for business success, including:

  • Assistance with site selection

  • Extensive on-site training and field support visits
