Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning Franchise: Trends to Watch in 2013

Green Cleaning, Diversification, Innovation Will Drive Industry

NASHVILLE, TN - (Marketwire - Dec 20, 2012) - As the cleaning industry continues to consolidate in 2013, expect to see better cleansing technologies for a broader array of surfaces, as well as more environmentally conscious solutions, say the carpet cleaning experts at Chem-Dry.  The carpet cleaning industry, in particular, will feel the impact of franchising.

"There's no question that industry trends point toward franchises as the emerging model for cleaning businesses," said Dan Tarantin, president and CEO of Harris Research Inc., Chem-Dry's parent company. "The cleaning industry is extremely fragmented and a growing number of previously independent carpet cleaners are realizing that franchises offer big advantages."

Among these, Tarantin said, are uniform, professional standards; superior products and operations; and proprietary, cutting-edge equipment.

Chem-Dry, which has the largest share of the U.S. carpet cleaning market, has solid footing in trends expected to dominate 2013:

  • Green cleaning. Every year, as research details the risk of particulates and allergens to respiratory health, consumers are paying more attention to environmentally friendly cleaning standards. Chem-Dry's primary cleaning solution, The Natural®, is green-certified, contains no phosphates or detergents and is safe and non-toxic for kids and pets. The company's proprietary hot carbonating extraction process also uses 80% less water than steam cleaning, which allows the carpet to dry in hours instead of days. Quick drying means lower risk of mold and mildew growth, a common issue with steam cleaning.
  • Innovation. Market demand coupled with rising fuel and maintenance costs have driven innovation. Chem-Dry recently launched a portable system, the XTS, with all the cleaning power of its larger truck mount systems but in a more compact footprint, with lower operational and maintenance costs and at roughly half the upfront cost.
  • Diversification. Builders are installing more varied surfaces in homes and offices, including hardwoods, tile and stone. "The successful cleaning companies in the coming years will be those that can position themselves to service this broad market," Tarantin said. Chem-Dry offers tile, stone and grout cleaning in addition to stain removal and upholstery and drapery cleaning services.

Chem-Dry has more than 3,500 franchise units worldwide and has been named a top franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine for 24 years in a row. To learn more, visit www.chemdryfranchise.com.
