Liberty Tax Service Prepares Taxpayers for Further Refund Delays

“This has been an epic beginning to tax season 2013,” said CEO and founder of Liberty Tax Service, John Hewitt. “I’m starting my 44th tax season looking at the worst delays in filing I have ever seen.

(PRWEB) January 18, 2013 - Liberty Tax, a Grand Junction tax preparer in Colorado, is alerting consumers of yet another delay to the official beginning of the 2013 filing season. The Internal Revenue Service has announced that it now plans to begin processing individual income tax returns on January 30th, eight days later than originally targeted. The announcement means that the vast majority of national and Grand Junction tax filers -- more than 120 million households -- should be able to start filing tax returns starting January 30th. To further frustrate the situation, refunds could be delayed to mid to late February. According to Kim Evans, owner of the Grand Junction Liberty Tax office at 216 North Avenue, “This has a very big impact on families who were counting on their refund to pay rent and put gas in their car. Not only is the filing date pushed out, but the processing time by the IRS will be 6-10 days longer than usual.”

“This has been an epic beginning to tax season 2013,” said CEO and founder of Liberty Tax Service, John Hewitt. “I’m starting my 44th tax season looking at the worst delays in filing I have ever seen. Fortunately, we have the most experienced management team of any tax preparation company and are ready to navigate these rough waters.” The delay stems from the January 2 enactment of tax law changes made to resolve the “fiscal cliff,” the package of automatic tax increases and federal spending cuts scheduled to start in the new year until averted by last-minute legislation.

Ed Ullrey, owner of the Liberty Tax Service at 25 Road and Highway 650 in Grand Junction, CO is using a local Grand Junction marketing firm, BlueFinn Creative Group, to help get information into the hands of his clients using social media platforms. He reminds taxpayers that to be among the first to receive their refunds, they should get their taxes prepared now so that they can be e-filed immediately on January 30th. Refunds can be expected mid to late February for taxes filed on January 30, 2013. The IRS reiterates that taxpayers will receive their tax refunds much faster by e-filing their return. More than 80 percent of taxpayers filed electronically last year.

"Liberty Tax is staying in contact with the IRS to keep abreast of the release of these updated forms. And we are fully prepared to move forward and help our customers get their money as quickly as possible," said Hewitt.

As a major leader in the tax preparation industry, Liberty Tax Service will be working alongside the IRS to help the American people with the delays this tax season and to ensure they receive the most current and accurate tax assistance.
