“Gluten-Free? So Can We”: The Counter® Custom Built Burgers Debuts Gluten-Free Menu

March 05, 2013 // Franchising.com // CULVER CITY, CALIF. – The Counter® Custom Built Burgers, the build-your-own-burger restaurant that offers guests endless possible burger creations since 2003, unveils an all gluten-free menu featuring signature burger builds, bun, starters, beer, wine and shakes. The menu will be available year-round and contributes to The Counter’s ongoing focus to provide guests freedom of choice in determining what they want.

“The Counter’s ‘Gluten-Free? So Can We’ menu is a direct extension of our core belief that everyone should be free to get what they want, how they want, without limitations” states Mike Costello, Director of Marketing for The Counter. “Few restaurants offer many choices for guests who are gluten-intolerant, gluten-sensitive or simply choose to live a gluten-free life, and most often, the guest has to modify what is already on the menu. The Counter’s Build-Your-Own focus gives our gluten-free guests countless choices and allows them to construct what they want, rather than deconstruct what we offer.”

The separate menu, accessible at all 33 U.S. locations (excluding airports), features the same five-step build-your-own burger process, with three different protein options (never-never beef, all natural turkey and organic bison), cheese, toppings and sauce, in addition to pre-designed signature burgers and bowls, such as the following:

  • Cranberry & Avocado Turkey Burger topped with sharp provolone, dried cranberries, avocado, carrot strings, organic mixed greens, scallions and horseradish mayo on a gluten-free bun
  • Spinach, Avocado & Salsa Bison Bowl with a 1/3 lb bison burger patty served on a bed of baby spinach, jalapeno jack cheese, avocado, roasted corn & blackbean salsa, carrot strings, scallions and habanero salsa
  • Beef Chili with Tillamook Cheddar, red onion, and sour cream. 

The menu also includes gluten-free milkshakes, a gluten-free beer from Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales, and wine. Prices vary by location.
