Home Care Franchise System Nurse Next Door Makes New York Times Twice in One Week

World's Most Prominent Newspaper Consults Nurse Next Door on Emerging Business and Health Care Issues

VANCOUVER, BC - (Marketwired - May 21, 2013) - Nurse Next Door, one of North America's fastest-growing home health care franchise systems, made the news pages of The New York Times twice in one recent week -- a signal that the company sits at the spear's tip of emerging trends in health care and business.

The first article, published May 8, prominently featured Nurse Next Door franchise partners Tony Uzzi and his stepdaughter Paige Palmer of Mission Viejo, Calif., as examples of the growing "dad and grad" movement in small business. Faced with a still-sluggish economy and poor job outlook, college graduates are increasingly buying franchises with help from their parents.

The second article was published May 14 and mentioned Nurse Next Door client Charles Meadows' experiences in seeking home care for his 83-year-old mother, Nancy, as part of a story about the rising cost of long-term care. The story quotes Meadows saying he "could not be more pleased with them because of the consistency of care my mother gets."

"We're very pleased that the Times recognizes these important trends and Nurse Next Door's contribution to them," said John DeHart, Nurse Next Door's co-founder and CEO. "The coverage is great not just for our brand but for raising the awareness of one of the first world's biggest challenges in the 21st century, our rapidly growing senior population, and the important role that home care plays."

The first Baby Boomers reached retirement age in 2010. That has touched off what's projected as a generation-long "silver tsunami"; in the United States, the senior population is expected to nearly double, reaching 72 million by 2030 (it was 39.6 million in 2009). The rising costs of hospital and nursing home care are leading more seniors and their children to hire home health care companies.
