Jamba Juice Takes Healthy Living to Heart

Jamba® Leverages Stores, Employees and Company Leadership in Raising Funds and Generating Awareness for American Heart Association Bay Area Needs

EMERYVILLE, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - May. 30, 2013 - Jamba Juice Company, a leading healthy, active lifestyle brand proudly announced today that it has successfully met its commitment to help raise funds and generate awareness for the Greater Bay Area Chapter of the American Heart Association (AHA). Since January, the company deployed various assets to support the AHA’s efforts in improving childhood health, which include research, prevention, advocacy and community outreach focused on prevention of childhood obesity and children’s heart defects.

During the months of February through mid-May Jamba engaged consumers through a “Whirl’d Hearts” program consisting of multi-faceted fundraising promotions. For several weeks, the company contributed one dollar from each serving of hot oatmeal purchased in select Bay Area stores. Following that promotion consumers were provided the opportunity to make a $1 donation and in return, receive a value-added coupon and have a “Whirl’d Heart” sticker with customer’s name displayed in their Jamba store. Through those combined efforts Jamba sought to raise up to $50,000 but successfully exceeded its goal, raising $75,000 for the AHA.

Additionally, Jamba employees got involved and kicked off the campaign with a silent auction held at the company’s Emeryville headquarters on March 14th. Invited guests were able to bid for items donated from Jamba, local businesses and national sports organizations. The highest bid won one lucky participant a private lunch with football superstar Vernon Davis, who personally attended the event.

“I am pleased with the way our organization got involved in supporting the important work that the American Heart Association is doing,” said Jamba chairman, president and CEO James D. White, who served as the Chairman of this year’s AHA’s Heart of Gold campaign, a year-long effort to raise $1 million. “It is imperative that we care for our future generations, especially those children who do not have access to nutritious food and safe community parks and centers in which to play.” Mr. White thanked leaders from other Greater Bay Area companies including Ross Stores, Chevron, Del Monte Foods, Kaiser Permanente, Nationwide Security and Building Services, United Health Care, VMware, and Wente Vineyards for joining in the Heart of Gold effort. The campaign culminated in the AHA Heart of Gold Ball on May 18th.

Dr. Matthew DeVane, president of the American Heart Association’s East Bay Board of Directors added, "We are thrilled with our very successful Heart of Gold Ball. We raised almost $1 million to help the American Heart Association in the fight against cardiovascular diseases and stroke – and CEO James White and the Jamba Juice team were critical to helping us achieve this significant goal.”
