Jersey Mike's CEO Peter Cancro Named 2013 Golden Chain Award Winner

Vote for Operator of the Year

July 05, 2013 // Franchising.com // Manasquan, NJ - Leading restaurant industry magazine, Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN), has named Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems, a 2013 Golden Chain Award winner. One of five recipients, Cancro will be honored during the 53rd annual Multi-Unit Foodservice Operators Conference (MUFSO) held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Dallas.

First presented in 1977, the Golden Chain Awards honor restaurant executives for outstanding recent accomplishments as well as career achievements. Winners are chosen by the editors of NRN. From this year’s lineup, NRN is asking readers and others to vote for the Operator of the Year, which will be announced at the Awards Gala on Sept. 30.

“This year’s winners have developed and executed aggressive growth strategies for their companies at a time when others might be holding back,” said NRN Publisher Chris Keating, as reported on the publication’s web site. “We applaud their thinking and their impressive results and look forward to honoring them at MUFSO with one of the our industry’s most prestigious awards.”

NRN pointed to Cancro’s impressive record, founding the popular sub shop when he was just 17 years old and today overseeing more than 750 locations open or in development throughout the country. Last year the chain continued its steady growth by opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33-percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

Recently, Technomic ranked Jersey Mike’s the 3rd fastest-growing restaurant chain with sales above $200 million and the company was named one of the Top 5 Growth Chains in the 2012 Nation’s Restaurant News Second 100 ranking, listed as #1 in growth in U.S. Systemwide Sales (sandwich segment).
