Zinga Frozen Yogurt Customers Keep Greek Constantly in Demand

Trend toward even more healthful options fuels frozen dessert offerings, too.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 - With Greek yogurt now a full-blown nutritional food phenomenon, operators of Zinga Frozen Yogurt stores are seeing more and more demand for Greek frozen yogurt flavors.

Virginia Zinga franchisee Dave Baer says Greek frozen yogurt flavors are in the top third in sales of the dozens of flavors he offers at his stores in Northern Virginia. “Due to the popularity of offering a Greek flavor every day, it’s been a challenge for our distributor," he said.

Like all Zinga franchisees, Baer rotates flavors, letting followers on Facebook know which flavors are featured each day. “Lots of customers were requesting Greek and when it is not in, people do request it,” he added.

“Of course, Greek yogurt has been around for a while, but Greek frozen yogurt is still pretty new to the market,” said Zinga franchisee Shannon Astle. “We’re one of the first self-serve concepts to offer it in the Boston/North Shore/New Hampshire area and I love that when our customers come in asking if we have any Greek froyo expecting to hear no -– that we’re able to offer them a number of delicious options.”

Debra Wood, another Zinga franchisee, has seen a lot of fads in her more than 30 years in the restaurant business. The combination of healthy benefits, customer requests, great taste – and good press -– fueled her enthusiasm for Greek yogurt as a dessert.

“It was our customers who first requested Greek frozen yogurt flavors and they are thrilled that we have it,” said Wood who operates Zinga stores in Gainesville and Front Royal, Virginia.

Wood’s stores have seen increasing demand for Honey Vanilla and Powerberry Greek frozen yogurt flavors and she will be adding Greek Caramel Java flavor in a week and expects it to go over just as well. Other Zinga stores also offer Sweet Greek Vanilla and Honey Vanilla Greek with Zeusberry Greek coming soon. Zinga operators rotate flavors regularly.

For Zinga franchisee Jim Merlo, the Powerberry flavor of Greek frozen yogurt has become a favorite with customers in his Dallas area and Ft. Worth, Texas stores. “Powerberry is one of our better sellers,” Merlo said. He said his two Zinga Frozen Yogurt stores in Westminster and Lakewood, Colorado would soon also have Greek flavors.

Zinga Los Angeles franchisees Mike Cochran and Rick Swisher are selling a lot of Greek frozen yogurt with Zeusberry leading the way at their Culver City and recently opened Long Beach store. "We want to always have at least one Greek flavor available at all times," Cochran said. "Our customers demand it."

All of Zinga’s yogurt flavors meet the National Yogurt Association’s criteria for “live and active culture yogurt.”

According to research firm Bernstein Research, Greek yogurt now makes up 35 percent of the total U.S. yogurt market, up from four percent in 2008 – and it’s still growing.

The appeal of Greek yogurt is not difficult to explain. It has more protein, less sugar and fewer carbs than traditional yogurt. It has a full-bodied taste without high sodium content.

The online trends community has weighed in on Greek frozen yogurt, too. Influenster is a free -to-join community of invited trendsetters who live to give opinions of products and experiences.

“Just because it's delicious doesn't mean it can't be healthy,” the website posted about Greek as a featured grocery item. “High in calcium and big on taste, they're a treat you can feel good about enjoying anytime.”
