The declaration coincides with October which is National Bullying Prevention Month. The campaign is inspired by the nation’s month long commitment to anti-bullying and the renowned ARMOR® Bullying and Predator Prevention Program taught in every PRO Martial Arts dojo.
Kicking-off the campaign students from each dojo proudly display the sign “My ARMOR® Is” along with a sign that displays what that armor is. Their armor is what helps keep them strong when facing bullies. The photos will be posted simultaneously October 1, 2013 on every dojo’s Twitter and Facebook in support of National Bullying Prevention Month and changing the conversation about bullying across the country.
The ARMOR®Bullying and Predator Prevention program teaches students practical skills to recognize bullies and predators, confidence, mutual respect, and assertiveness when seeking help. The PRO Martial Arts ARMOR® is developed by renowned martial artist Grandmaster Ed Samane, who holds an eighth –degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and Sin Moo Hapkido, and a fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. During the development of the ARMOR® program, Samane consulted with national experts in psychology, law enforcement, medicine, education and martial arts.
Throughout the month of October PRO Martial Arts locations will also host a variety of community events including speaker presentations with influential community members that have been bullied, as well as chats with local dignitaries and guidance counselors. These events are designed to inform the community and emphasize the armor children, families and communities have against bullies and predators.
“As someone who was bullied, I believe it is incredibly important to offer children a program where they can learn how to avoid and combat bullying,” said Grand Master Ed Samane. “We want to work together and affect communities across the nation to promote anti-bullying, and a social campaign getting every dojo and student involved is a great way increase awareness.”
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly one third of all students aged 12-18 reported having been bullied at school, some almost daily. The affects of physical, verbal and online bullying and predatory behavior can be devastating to the development of skills and confidence among children.
