Cookies by Design Goes Gluten-free

The first national gifting company is expanding into gluten-free cookie bouquets to serve the growing number of Americans with food allergies.

Plano, TX (PRWEB) October 02, 2013 - Texas-based Cookies by Design, known for its hand-decorated designs and personalized gift baskets, is rolling out a new line of gluten-free cookie gifts. Cookies by Design will chip into the $4.5 billion industry October 1, making its new gluten-free treats available nationwide to more than 100 franchise stores sprinkled throughout the country.

“To stay viable, you have to be relevant,” said Jack Long, CEO of Cookies by Design. “We are dedicated to serving our customers with food allergens -- as well as those who have chosen gluten-free as a lifestyle.”

With the help of several food scientists, the company, headquartered in Plano, spent months perfecting and testing its recipe to assure customers it is gluten-free.

"Our gluten-free cookies are baked fresh with that same delicious taste Cookies by Design have been known for over the last thirty years," said Long.

The new gluten-free line includes hand decorated sugar cookie bouquets, baskets and BouTrays together with three gourmet cookie flavors: Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Macadamia and Millionaire.

“Research suggests that 18 million people in our country suffer from a gluten sensitivity,” said Long. “We’re anticipating our gluten-free cookies and healthy energy bars will make up 10 percent of sales.”

For those with celiac disease, it's vital to follow a gluten-free diet to avoid malnourishment and to prevent chronic disease. Gluten is found in grains and can cause inflammation in the small intestine in people who suffer from celiac disease.

There's no cure for celiac disease, but following a strict gluten-free diet can help manage symptoms and promote intestinal healing, according to researchers at the Mayo Clinic, which is the leading center for diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease.

Health experts suggest that cutting out gluten can improve digestion and thinking. Many without celiac disease have gone gluten-free to shed pounds and feel better overall.

Despite enjoying thirty years of sweet success, franchise owners believe the new gluten-free line will allow them to chip into a market that continues to grow every year.
