FlipFlop Dogs Offers Veterans Discounted Franchisee Program

October 31, 2013 // Franchising.com // MARCO ISLAND, FL - In honor of Veterans Day, (November 11) FlipFlop® Dogs, The Alternative to Kenneling®, announced today they will offer military veterans a 25 percent discount off the initial franchise fee.

FlipFlop Dogs recently gained approval from International Franchise Association (IFA) VetFran program. IFA’s VetFran® program helps returning service members access franchise opportunities through training, financial assistance, and industry support. What sets apart the FlipFlop Dogs business model is the one-on-one loving care each pet receives while their owner is away. Unlike taking your dog to a kennel, at FlipFlop Dogs there are no rows of animals in cages. Each family’s dog or dogs are the only guests in a Companion’s home picked just for them.

FlipFlop Dogs’ co-founder and president, Taffy Miltz, feels this high-quality level of care is a perfect fit for veterans looking to launch their own business as they re-enter civilian life.

"My father-in-law served in World War II and my father in the Korean War. Both were honored to serve our country," said Miltz. "My husband and I remember them talking about the sacrifices they made as well as their struggles adjusting to life back home."

While investigating participation in the VetFran Program, Miltz spoke with Mary Thompson, president of the Mr. Rooter® Corporation, a veteran with eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a logistics officer, achieving the rank of captain. Thompson shared her story with Miltz, explaining the positive impact VetFran had on her own life.

"I’m grateful that companies like FlipFlop Dogs are living up to the promise to make sure veterans are given the opportunities that they have fought so hard to protect," said Thompson. After opening a Cookies by Design® franchise in 1994, then expanding to include three total locations by 1997, Thompson was promoted to president of the company in 2004. She was then recruited by Mr. Rooter.

FlipFlop Dogs is one of nearly 600 franchise systems in the VetFran program that voluntarily offers financial incentives and mentoring to prospective veteran franchise small business owners. More than 6,000 servicemen and women have become franchise owners through the VetFran programs, and more are being added every month.

The initial franchise fee to open a FlipFlop Dogs franchise is $37,500, and being a dog lover is a must. FlipFlop franchisees are home-based, reducing overhead by not requiring a commercial storefront. Being home-based allows the owner to be operational within weeks rather than months.
