November 22, 2013 // Franchising.com // SAN ANTONIO, Texas – There's no doubt about it – there is growth in the more than $75 billion salon industry services sector. And one segment of the industry that is evolving the most is suite/chair rentals. According to the Professional Salon Industry Haircare Study performed by Professional Consultants & Resources, such rentals now constitute approximately 37% of all U.S. salons and account for nearly $20 billion of the industry's revenue distribution.
This evolution has created a goldmine of opportunity for companies in the salon suite franchise business.
One such company, Salons By JC, has become the leader in what is now one of the fastest-growing segments of the real estate industry. With 13 locations already open and operating in Texas and Alabama, more than 100,000 square feet of salon space and nearly 200 additional locations in various stages of development, Salons By JC plans to add 50 new locations in 2014 and as many as 100 in 2015.
"When you consider that beauty professionals continue to move from traditional independent salons and mid-tier chains to suite rentals in record numbers, there is no doubt that our creative approach to the industry presents a unique business and franchise opportunity," said Jack Griffey, Co-Founder of Salons By JC. "We are continuing to redefine the industry and remain dedicated to providing the ultimate salon suite experience for our franchisees, beauty professionals and their customers."
A salon suite is similar to a shopping mall. A mall owner puts the building together and leases it out to different businesses. A salon suite works the same way. Salons By JC franchisees can build from the ground up or build out space in a shopping center. Once the space is built, they can begin leasing to beauty and wellness practitioners – including hairstylists, nail technicians, facialists and massage therapists – who have typically been in the industry for at least a few years and already have an established clientele.
The interior space – which ranges in size from 6,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet – is finished out with 30-60 private suites of various sizes. All of the rooms are fully outfitted with whatever supplies and accessories a beauty professional may need to be successful in business such as barber chairs, work desks, hair washing stations, sinks and towel cabinets. Each stylist has the freedom to design their own creative spaces and use the products they feel brings the highest quality to their clients.
Salons By JC typically operates at an occupancy rate of 95% or higher.
"The salon suite concept is fast becoming the standard in the industry. It not only frees salon owners from the day to day management, hiring, and firing of salon professionals, but it also gives beauty professionals the chance to own their own business without the large upfront costs and risks associated with building and running a salon," Griffey added.
Founded in 1998 by retail executives Jack Griffey and Cecil Miller, Salons By JC has carved a niche in the more than $75 billion salon industry services sector with its creative approach to the real estate industry. The fast-growing real estate development and leasing business provides high-end retail space for beauty and wellness practitioners, and has a full range of salon/spa offerings at its 13 locations throughout Texas and Alabama. Based in San Antonio, Texas, Salons By JC is expanding nationwide via franchising. For more information, visit www.salonsbyjc.com.
