Bruster’s Real Ice Cream® Breaks Ground on First All-New Prototype in 25 Years

Savannah Shop to Debut Indoor Seating, Expanded Menu as Chain Launches "Four-Seasons" Strategy

PITTSBURGH - December 16, 2013 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Construction is underway in Savannah, Ga., on the first new Bruster's Real Ice Cream prototype in the chain’s 25-year history. The in-line store, located in the new Victory Station shopping center just east of downtown, is expected to open in mid-January.

Earlier this year Bruster’s CEO Jim Sahene announced a five-point strategy to reignite growth and attract new franchisees, including a new "four-seasons" sales approach designed to generate traffic year round. The new prototype – key to the strategy – radically departs from previous, stand-alone Bruster's locations with walk-up service and outdoor seating. The high-traffic, Savannah shopping center location will incorporate indoor seating and "treat theater" display cases, allowing guests to see their orders being created and personalized with toppings. Its bold, modern décor with bright red and purple walls will create a fun, friendly environment.

The 30-seat, 1,600 square-foot shop, locally owned by Patrick DeLaRosa and partner Brandy Montez, also will become the first Bruster’s to sell soft-serve yogurt and fresh fruit smoothies, along with 37 flavors of premium, freshly made in-house ice cream, sorbets, Italian ices, milkshakes, pies and cakes.

DeLaRosa, a U.S. Army and Army Reserve/National Guard veteran, and Montez, a Savannah native, decided to open a Bruster’s because the area is missing a traditional, family-oriented real ice cream store. "The taste and quality of Bruster’s ice cream is truly amazing. It’s like nothing else," said DeLaRosa. "On top of that, our guests will be the first to enjoy an expanded menu and indoor seating that will make our shop a year-round destination," added Montez.

"Bruster’s is extremely excited to have Patrick and Brandy onboard to open this new prototype store," Sahene said. "Their enthusiasm, experience and commitment to their local community makes them the ideal franchise partner to lead us into our next 25 years." DeLaRosa and Montez expect to open four other Bruster’s in the area.

As part of its revitalization strategy, Bruster’s also has revamped its business and franchise model, dramatically reducing investment and operational costs. Go to: http://www.brusters.com/own_opportunity.asp for franchise information.
