Franchising in Africa 2014

Legal and Business Considerations, published by LexNoir Foundation, provides an overview of the franchise industry in Africa and addresses the typical legal issues confronted when expanding a franchise system overseas, and particularly in Africa. It highlights issues encountered when drafting international franchise agreements, and provides practical ways in which to finance the African franchise venture. The publication also covers those laws governing franchising in 16 African countries—Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Several of the chapters are devoted to a particular country. In those chapters, an author, who is a legal expert in the designated jurisdiction, addresses the basic questions that a franchise lawyer would need to know to competently represent a client in expanding its franchise system to that country. Many of these responses are more broadly applicable to other types of agreements and transactions.

This is the second edition of the 450-page book which reflects the work of more than 30 experts in the field. For more information about the book, please click here.
