April 11, 2014 // Franchising.com // New Haven – Wiggin and Dana Partner Erika L. Amarante has been elected a 2014 Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation James W. Cooper Fellows Program, which honors leading members of the legal profession and the Judiciary in Connecticut. Membership in the Fellows is by invitation only and is evidence of professional distinction.
Erika is a partner in the firm's Litigation Department. Her practice includes litigation, arbitration and counseling on a wide variety of complex commercial and civil litigation issues. Erika regularly represents hospitals, physicians and other health care providers in cases alleging professional liability, including claims of medical negligence, lack of informed consent, negligent credentialing and products liability. She also has extensive experience in franchise litigation and frequently counsels the firm's clients on the requirements of federal and state antitrust law. Erika currently serves as Chair of the Connecticut Bar Association's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section, and Chair of the Distribution & Franchising Committee of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law.
The Fellows Program, now in its 20th year, includes over 900 members. The group consists of private practice lawyers, judges, corporate counsels, professors of law at Connecticut's law schools, past and current leadership of the Connecticut Bar Association, and numerous present and former government leaders.
The Connecticut Bar Foundation is a philanthropic organization which develops and administers programs to enhance the understanding and improvement of the law and legal institutions, and it sponsors educational symposia. The Foundation administers several programs including the Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA) and the Interest on Trust Accounts (IOTA) programs which provide funds for delivery of legal services for the poor. Also, the Foundation administers the Judicial Branch Grants-in-Aid and the Court Fees Grants-in-Aid programs for legal services.
