Abby Pierce, a sophomore from Luverne, Minnesota, won her "Golden Ticket" for the free food through a social media contest hosted by the Mexican quick service restaurant chain. Taco John's® invited people to use the hashtag #TacoJohns when posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Vine. Pierce's winning entry was posted on Twitter.
"I was so excited about winning, at first I didn't believe it, but when my dreams were confirmed, I leaped for joy…literally!" says Pierce. "Taco John's® is one of my true addictions, and this might have made me love them even more, if at all possible."
The social media contest was part of a College Road Tour that Taco John's® launched to raise awareness of its new Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® Burrito. Taco John's® visited a total of 18 colleges and universities across 7 different states. At each stop, people were given an opportunity to win a "Golden Ticket."
"We want to get people talking about the Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® Burrito, and we knew college campuses would be a good place to start," says Renée Middleton, Vice President for Marketing at Taco John's®. "We see the Golden Ticket as a great opportunity to say thanks to our loyal guests in Vermillion."
Taco John's® also gave away hundreds of free bags of Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® snacks and half price coupons for the limited time offer in each college town. The Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® Burrito will be available in Vermillion through July 13.
Taco John's® is teaming up with PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division for the Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® Burrito. The burrito combines spicy chorizo sausage, jalapeno slices, bold nacho cheese and chile de arbol salsa with the crunch of Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® snacks all inside a fiery tortilla.
