Room to Grow Partners with Learning Express Toys for Donations of Baby Essentials

June 19, 2014 // Franchising.com // Learning Express Toys in Sudbury and Needham have signed on to be permanent collection sites for Room to Grow, a nonprofit organization in Boston dedicated to building a strong foundation for babies in poverty. Customers of Learning Express Toys, the nation’s leading franchisor of educational toy stores, can now bring new and nearly new clothes, toys, books, feeding supplies and baby gear that their infants and toddlers have outgrown to the Sudbury and Needham stores. In addition, LE Toys locations in Franklin, Westborough, Lynnfield and Beverly will host semi-annual collection drives in their stores. Donations collected at LE Toys will be provided to families in Room to Grow’s program to help ensure a brighter future for their children.

Families who have been referred by prenatal programs assisting low-income women come to Room to Grow every three months until their child’s third birthday. At each visit, families meet with our staff social workers and receive customized parenting support, developmental information and access to community resources. Additionally, families leave each visit with all the baby essentials their child needs. This unique combination of social work support along with material resources from birth to age 3 is designed to help the most vulnerable children get a strong start in life.

Research has shown that the first three years of a child’s life are critical for the development of their intellect, personality and skills. By focusing on these early years, Room to Grow provides children with the foundation they need to enter school prepared, giving them a better chance to thrive and succeed in life.

Room to Grow is grateful for the generosity of Learning Express Toys, its customers and the greater Boston community who make it possible for the organization to serve 400 families in Boston. To learn more about Room to Grow and see a list of the items we accept, visit www.roomtogrow.org.

About Room to Grow

Room to Grow, a nonprofit organization founded in 1998 and located in Boston and New York, is dedicated to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development. Parents expecting a baby are referred to Room to Grow by selected prenatal programs assisting low-income families. Upon their referral, parents visit Room to Grow’s warm and inviting space once every three months from just before the birth of the baby until their child turns three. During their one-on-one appointments with our staff social workers, typically lasting two hours, parents receive developmental information, customized support, referrals to other community resources, and all of the needed baby items to ensure a healthy and secure start for their child. The $10,000 of essential material items for the baby that each family receives over the course of three years, including 130 books for the child’s home library, are all donated to Room to Grow by generous individuals and corporations. Room to Grow currently supports 400 families in each location.
