College Student Wins National Taco John's Social Media Contest

June 25, 2014 // Franchising.com // College Student Wins National Taco John's® Social Media Contest Chris Winter didn't think it was possible to win but now, thanks to the Taco John's® Mission:Pawsible app he is the owner of an Xbox® One, Beats by Dr. Dre® Studio Headphones, 16GB Wi-Fi –enabled iPad Air™, 16GB iPod touch®, Chester t-shirt, $35 worth of Taco John's gift cards and various other prizes and coupons.

"I jokingly told everyone I was going to win from the very beginning." Says Winter, a Junior at Saint Cloud University. "I never thought that anyone actually wins in contests like these and now I have so many prizes I don't even know what I'll do with all of them."

The Taco John's® Mission:Pawsible application for mobile devices was created to raise awareness of the Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® Burrito, a new menu item available for a limited time at the Mexican quick service restaurant. Users were encouraged to download the free app and participate in missions in order to earn points. The missions involved picture, video and art submissions with Taco John's® locations or food. Users could also complete a virtual scratch-off to earn Taco John's® coupons for free food.

"I had so much fun completing the missions but the hardest mission was when I had to eat Taco John's® inside of a Taco Bell® …I could sense some tension." Says Winter. "I love Taco John's® and am so excited my hard work paid off".

There are currently over 9,000 downloads of the Mission:Pawsible app. With 3 challenges a day for 55 days and 3 weekly challenges for 9 weeks, Winter was the first to reach 3,000 points. He also completed a total of 192 missions. After each completed daily and weekly missions, users could "brag" on Facebook or Twitter about submitting and earn an additional 2 points.

Taco John's® is teaming up with PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division for the Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® Burrito. The burrito combines spicy chorizo sausage, jalapeno slices, bold nacho cheese and chile de arbol salsa with the crunch of Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® snacks all inside a fiery tortilla.
