Ben & Jerry's Arrives on the PDX Scene with Free Scoops

Vermont's Finest Seeks to Find What "Keeps Portland WEIRD"

BURLINGTON, Vt. - July 01, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Calling all Ben & Jerry's ice cream fans! It is officially the sweetest time of year. Today, Ben & Jerry's Scoop Truck kicks off its annual month-long tour in Portland, giving away FREE scoops to loyal fans. The truck will be scooping its newest line of flavor innovations: Ben & Jerry's Cores. And if that wasn't enough, this year Ben & Jerry's very own Storyteller, Doree Speidel, will be joining the truck crew, giving ice cream lovers the inside scoop on the truck's winding path and reporting on all the things that make Portland so unique from the people she meets, to the food she tries and the experiences she has throughout the month.

Now through July 29, the truck will be scooping out free super premium chunks and swirls at local community events, businesses and non- profits. Here are a few ways to cross paths with the Scoop Truck:

While giving away free scoops is nothing new for the Vermont-based ice cream company, the stops that the Scoop Truck will be making will be a little different this year. The Storyteller will be helping guide the truck ensuring it is hitting up unique and local areas of the city, and engaging fans for their recommendations on where to go.

"For the past few years we've been dishing out free scoops around the country to connect with our fans in local cities," says Doree Speidel. "This year, we want to get to the heart of the community and experience an even more authentic, local vibe in each city we visit. I'm looking forward to exploring the art, boutiques, (and food!) in The Pearl, trying a craft cocktail or microbrew at one of the many awesome spots in Distillery Row, taking in the gorgeous summertime views of Mt. Hood, and starting my day with a Stumptown coffee. And, I'm excited to hear local tips from all of the Portlanders the Scoop Truck will greet along the way!"

The 2014 Scoop Truck tour will feature two of 2014's newest core flavors, including:

Salted Caramel: Sweet cream ice cream with blonde brownies and a salted caramel swirl

Hazed & Confused: Hazelnut and chocolate ice creams with fudge chips and a hazelnut fudge swirl
