McAlister's Deli Signs Development Agreement to Open 10 Locations

Award-winning Fast Casual Concept Accelerates Franchise Growth throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Missouri, Colorado and Wyoming

September 22, 2014 // Franchising.com // ALPHARETTA, Ga. – McAlister's® Deli, a leading fast casual restaurant chain, announced today it has signed an agreement with existing franchise group Southern Deli Holdings, LLC to open 10 additional locations throughout North and South Carolina, Colorado and Wyoming, with three locations slated to open in late 2014. Additionally, the franchise group recently acquired seven existing locations in St. Louis, Mo. The new development commitments will result in two new restaurants per year over the next five years.

"We are excited about McAlister's accelerated growth and expansion and see tremendous opportunity to further develop the brand throughout all five states," said McAlister's Chief Development Officer Jeff Sturgis. "Southern Deli Holdings, LLC has a long history with McAlister's and is widely recognized as one of our top franchisees. We are confident the team will sustain a loyal fan base throughout these communities and will continue to grow the brand's footprint across the country."

Southern Deli Holdings, LLC currently operates 47 locations in North and South Carolina, Missouri, Colorado and Wyoming. The group has a development plan in place for continued growth throughout all five states, and will be operating 50 locations by year-end with the opening of its Charlotte, N.C., Fayetteville, N.C. and Florence, S.C. restaurants.

"McAlister's is expanding nationwide and we are excited to be a part of that growth," said Yaron Goldman, CEO of Southern Deli Holdings, LLC. "We have experienced strong growth with the brand and look forward to introducing our delicious food and genuine hospitality to even more communities over the next several years."

Goldman started with McAlister's Deli in 1996 as a sandwich maker while attending the University of Alabama. After a year with the company, he worked his way up to management and became a franchisee at the age of 24. Goldman opened his first unit in Charlotte, N.C., in 1999 and has grown Southern Deli to the 47 current units across five states.

Technomic® recognized McAlister's twice in its Chain Restaurant Consumers' Choice Awards — in 2014 as the top kid-friendly fast casual chain and in 2013 as the top fast casual chain for food and beverage. This year, Nation's Restaurant News named McAlister's the top limited-service sandwich chain in its Consumer Picks Survey.
